The Error 0x80004005: Unspecified error might be due to a corrupted system file. As such, the System File Checker, which repairs corrupted system files, might resolve the Unspecified error.

You can utilize SFC in Windows as follows:

  1. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator by pressing the Windows key + X hotkey and selecting Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. First, input DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth to run the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool in Windows.
  3. Then run the SFC scan by entering sfc /scannow in the Prompt and pressing Return.

The SFC scan might take about 20-30 minutes to complete. Restart your desktop or laptop if the scan does repair a file.

Many, many, many of us are experiencing occurrences like this from time to time.  It is not time to take drastic steps like a total reinstall or worse yet a total fresh Windows install.  Most of these have proved to be either temporary server issues, or frustrating log in scenarios!.  Have you installed the xBox app on your computer?  Depending on the source for  your purchase you may need to also install and sign in to the Microsoft Store app.  For both of these this does not mean signing in to the respective web sites.  It instead means installing the respective PC apps and signing in to both.

Cumbersome and highly frustrating.  In IMHO totally unwarranted!  But beginning recently required. Hope these steps resolve the issue(s).

I repeat my previous post. Is xbox game pass the same as the PC xbox app?  And have you installed and signed into the MS Store App.  Not the web site, instead the downloaded app?  Please confirm! Difficult to discern why either could not be downloaded and run.  Have no idea that this is actually your issue, but still there appears to be a disconnect on understanding.

I cannot unfortunately apologize for MS that it is all this cumbersome.  But I have shared your frustration!

You don't use Macrium or some other similar software? If you had your problem would probably be a distant memory.

I backup my system every couple of days. I think there was a similar problem (MSFS gone from computer) a couple of days ago after Win11  update.

Have you recently installed Win 11?

If you go to Windows Settings/Apps/MSFS/Advanced Options, can you Repair, or Uninstall?

I had same problem. Lost everything and couldn't download program. Tried all solutions offered to no avail. Finally found the following from a Microsoft Community member which worked for me.

It seemed to me that logging into Xbox.com did the trick.
