Actually, X-Plane stars are point lights and the magnitude is simulated as well, so that you only see what you’d see IRL depending on the ambient luminosity. Whereas it seems to me that FS2020 is using a texture projected on a dome (and actually it is displaying this texture in front of the clouds...). This requires either using a very high resolution texture to cover the entire dome with tiny lights, otherwise they are displaying blurry like in FS2020 (especially visible in VR). Furthermore, because it is fixed pixel lighting, it won't change the amount of stars you see based on their magnitude vs ambient lighting.

I see, that's interesting !

Perhaps than it is due to me using an old PC with a GTX1050 Ti and Oculus Rift CV1 forcing me to user low resolution (non HDR) gfx settings ?

@avhpilot

The Stars texture is definitely blurry to me with both the G2 and Index.

Anyone know if the "sky box" or whatever they use for the night sky  is editable in the SDK or otherwise?

Just thinking that a modder could improve this area perhaps.

In my G2 the stars look good not blurry. The Milky Way depiction with too many tiny stars, thats the only thing bothering me, not realistic in our light polluted sky's. I see them through clouds sometimes but only the thin ones, not through a solid layer.

Can you post your settings please? I'm intrigued as to whether there's a particular setting that could trigger sharper looking stars, thanks.

My settings are not very high in general. But one comes to mind: Texture resolution = Ultra. This is important in VR, it makes everything look better and (light bulbs, taxi lights etc.) smaller. When I get back in MSFS, I will look what other setting could be important.

Ok thanks I'll check that setting out later

A few other settings that could make the difference: Render resolution in game is at 100% and in the OpenXR tool 50%, this gives me a final resolution of just above 2000p inthe headset. In AMD Radeon software I have image sharpening on for all monitors (at 50%) and this seems to work in the G2 as well. Thats about it, the rest is nothing spectacular 🙂

Nope none of those settings affect the Stars, I put them all up to Max and in VR (slideshow!) the stars still look too close & blurry. I may reach out to the wider community to see if there's a modder willing to take a look.

Unfortunately after SU6 stutters and fps reduction increased when on ground. No problem during flight, but on ground many times it is almost unusable.

Has somebody else the same problem?

And moreover appeared some flickering. I never experienced it before.

I run MSFS on a I710070K, 32GB RAM, RTX 2070 Advanced Rog Strix and Oculus Rift S

As before VR is not possible to be used decently if I don't set the ASW to 30Hz

Many other aspects, as UI menu etc, are for sure improved

I tried using MSFS w/ Airlink'd Quest 2 with SU6 the same way I had been doing it with SU5, and it lagged so badly it became unflyable. What I did to make it flyable was to turn off the rolling cache in the Data area of General Options. Worked so well I was able to turn up some the graphics settings, but I don't know if it's going to be a problem with downloading the data enroute etc yet as a result of not having a cache.

MSFS since 1986 with Mac 512+ and now with 32gb i7 3080 8gb

472.12 with 3080 and G2 tried newest NV Drivers and went back to 472.12

I find it much better then SU5 overall.

My main problem is when clouds are to horizon and you are below or just a touch above them moving head up and down causes a long band kind of hard to explain extra white pixelated clouds, definitely anomaly which i have not seen before.

If you keep head still the clouds look fine its hard to explain not screen tearing but something like that, a ghosting image in a way but very distorted of the clouds.

That anomaly you speak of appeared with SU5 for me, nothing to do with Nvidia drivers.

I did not notice it after SU5, maybe I didn't fly enough, did SU6 fix it for you... I think not should have fixed it for me too lol,

I just mention drivers for the record.
