October 19, 20214 yr Early startup notes, looks like the Antialiasing on the VR panels is definately fixed and the camera roll in 3rd person view when flying fast jets is way better. I have norticed some graphical bridge issues in the New York area, like a wall on the bridge extending to the water but this may be addon related. Performance seems ok at LOD 300 with a RTX 3090 FS PC - AMD7900X3D / MSI RTX 4090 24gb / 32gb Ram / Varjo Aero / Bravo Quadrant / Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog / Yoke / TPR Pedals UK Skytours - http://www.ukskytours.co.uk
October 19, 20214 yr Performance and visuals are certainly not better, might be a little worse ( G2 with a 3090 ). I've tried both the 457.3 driver and the latest 496.13. All in all, not too impressed. Still don't understand why I can't taxi around an airport without stutters. That's the one thing that drives me nuts.
October 19, 20214 yr No mods, initial first couple of quick flights: - No change in FPS that I could tell - AA is indeed fixed on in game menus which is good - Live Traffic working (eventually) for me, could also see their lights upto 15nm away (finally fixed from SU5) - New option in VR for Cubemap Reflections - Also noticed in usercfg there's some entries for Vegetation that I don't recall seeing before (there may be other new ones too) So far so good, nothing nasty at least. October 20, 20214 yr so far for me, about the same as su5 but; with less aliasing on hand crafted buildings. Night flying looks better with sharper image in the distance. Runway lighting improved. Not sure about stars. Cockpit more contrasty (less washed out looking) overall, pretty happy so far Edited October 20, 20214 yr by dogmanbird
October 20, 20214 yr For me there is an issue at night with the sky/star box distance. Stars appear in front of clouds. In other words, it looks like clouds are more far away than the stars.

The Stars have looked poor in VR since day one too me, too "close" and blurry and clearly on some Sky Box like in an old first person shooter game. They don't seem distant and point of lights at all. October 20, 20214 yr reflections look pretty good now MSFS now remembers the last airports flown 👍 Edited October 20, 20214 yr by dogmanbird

I tried to fly at night yesterday due to the news about better light. and you can see a bright milky way band with a full moon as well. not very realistic. On a positive side. stars have different magnitudes and are true to life. this is much better than in X-plane where all stars are all equally bright, too evenly spread and way too much contrast with black background. In FSX the milky way also appears in front of the clouds. have not yet checked in FS2020 Antoine v Heck --- Ryzen 5800X3D, 32Gb DDR4 RAM@1600 Mhz, RTX3090 (24GB VRAM). 2TB SSD - VR with Quest 2 via link cable
October 20, 20214 yr Bit more stuttery, had to turn down render scale 5% to get it as smooth as it was. No more "do you want to start in safe mode" question on startup. A mixed bag for me. Still a fantastic gaming experience.

Actually, X-Plane stars are point lights and the magnitude is simulated as well, so that you only see what you’d see IRL depending on the ambient luminosity. Whereas it seems to me that FS2020 is using a texture projected on a dome (and actually it is displaying this texture in front of the clouds...). This requires either using a very high resolution texture to cover the entire dome with tiny lights, otherwise they are displaying blurry like in FS2020 (especially visible in VR). Furthermore, because it is fixed pixel lighting, it won't change the amount of stars you see based on their magnitude vs ambient lighting. The XP11 file with the data is plain text:X-Plane11\Resources\default data\earth_astro.data It has about 25000 stars in the form:Ascension Declination Magnitude [name] The file format is documented:Astronomical data (astro.dat) File Format Specification | X-Plane Developer You can even edit this file in any text editor and add your own geometric figures… 🙂 PS: The file starts like this: Spoiler I 740 Version - build 1795, metadata StarXP740 Copyright © 2004, Robin A. October 22, 20214 yr i'm getting wicked vc light blinking issue after su6. triggers easily with vr running but can happen in 2d mode as well as shown below. zooming out triggers it in this case. no idea what's going on, all ok before su6. swapped video drivers and in-game gfx settings but nothing helps... don't see it happen on the aerosoft crj, worst on carenado pa34.
