Given that literally thousands of people have got it working in the past few days I'd suggest these comments reflect more on the capabilities of the individual than the software itself.

I've been simming since FS4, bought and installed numerous addons, Payware and Freeware alike, and I think I can judge and compare difficulty to install them.

I did installation of AIG according to the video by Bad_T and the pdf manual in parallel (which go similar but not identical). When it came to installing the flightplans, the first one didn't install automatically, despite I had the "Skip" box checked. I restarted and Bulk "install" went on for 4 hours. 200 flightplans were left though, including a few airlines which I would like to see.

Next I tried to install the remaining ones manually, there are the "download" and "install" tabs which didn't work, even after downloading the packages the  following installation just hung at a certain point. I tried going on with the "Bulk install" (with "Skip" again) which just went on with numerous windows popping up (flightplans which were obvisouly skipped but didn't install anything more).

At this point I killed the program and restarted it (yes, Admin and command line properly set). Restart took 20 (25...?) minutes. Now I was able to install the remaining flightplans, first a couple of them with "Skip" off, then the rest with "Skip" checked. There were still ~10 left which I had to install one by one manually via the Bulk install by first downloading then pointing to the downloaded packages oine by one.

Restart of the admin program (I know it's not needed for running in sim but for administration e.g. updates) still takes another 25 min or so.

(Please, excuse me if I didn't get all detail right, this was from head and I have limited capabilities.)

That whole procedure took me hours where, yes, I could indeed do some pointless stuff but was always on tension in case some intervention was needed. I'm 69 now, not sure how many moons I have left to see, but I get a bit careful what to do with the remaining time of my life.

Kind regards, Michael

Sounds similar to what I went through in P3D, right before I purchased UT Live.

We're still going on about how hard is AIM to install? Man, it's been three days. Give it a rest, move on to some other drama. 🙂

I tried it in P3D too, but at a point resigned and went with UTL as you did.

Unfortunately, there are no alternatives in MSFS. The one competing alternative  freeware development was cancelled for nebulous reasons.

I really like it, because by that time I was tired of flying tube liners, and switched to GA and some rotary wing aircraft. They had tons of GA flights in UT live.

I agree. A small number of people (one of whom is above in this thread) who have seemingly posted with immense passion across a number threads just how difficult AIG is to setup. Its beyond me why somebody would be so passionate to make something sound so difficult.

Given that literally thousands of people have got it working in the past few days I'd suggest these comments reflect more on the capabilities of the individual than the software itself.

Yep, the ST thread, now the UT thread are more about "some" users difficulties and opinions on AIG than the topics at hand... Apparently some are even "driven to a nervous breakdown" by the install procedure (really) and they are convoluting the AIG thread that is 50+ pages of anticipation and excitement into that being 50 pages of issues which is flat out untrue.  Why would you want to dislike something so badly you exaggerate the issues people are seeing to try and make your case? I can't grasp it.

I understand some don't care for it but to post negative comments about it in every traffic thread is a bit much considering it is a FREE offering that has taken thousands of man hours to compile for the community by the community.  Not to mention the support directly from the Dev and his team all over the forums.  They actually come here to HELP.  Sure, let's bash their efforts in every traffic thread because it didn't work for you...

MyTraffic: Dead

UTL: Dead,

Simple Traffic TBD,

AIG, available now, free, highest quality models, real flight plans, community inspired project by freeware dev's and people sit here and bash it.  That says more about the individuals than the program.  Like they are throwing their toys out of the pram because AIG wasn't made easy enough for them.  I truly can't understand the animosity and dislike for something people spent thousands of hours developing and delivering for free.  If it's not for you fine, if you are wiling to ask for help people will jump to assist including the Dev themselves but to start actively trying to diminish their efforts and spread negativity while pointing out shortcomings around what they have delivered is a bit much for me.

You can say you prefer UTL or ST or MT without spreading negativity around AIG and how it causes people nervous breakdowns.  You can simply say it was too complicated "for me" or you could spew a bunch of negativity.  But yes, if you spew that negativity there a bunch of as you call them "fan boys" who are so appreciative of what we have been given for free we will absolutely provide an alternative perspective.

Here we go again, trying to beat your off topic AIG drum on yet another thread.  You seem to be totally incapable of respecting someone's opinion that is not in lock step with yours. I bet when Simple Traffic is released on Monday, and people post how much they like it, you will go ape....LOL

Nope, I have no problem with people liking other products, wish ST all the best with their release.  So you will lose that bet but I bet you won't stop comparing it to AIG and bashing AIG in the process.  Focus on what ST does well rather than what AIG does wrong maybe?

Seriously Bob, this is a UT thread that you posted about AIG giving people nervous breakdowns.  So you really want to get into who brought this off topic?  Go back and look, who brought up AIG here?

Every traffic thread includes your negative comments on AIG then someone disagrees with you and they are incapable of respecting your opinion?  I respect your opinion, I disagree with you using every traffic thread to try to make it...

So it's ok for you to go into other traffic threads to talk negatively about AIG but no one has the right to voice their counter opinion?  Nope, no hypocrisy there.
