Try to install and run the free version of 3DMark, that gives a good baseline for diagnostics. Did you install the Nvidia driver suite? Yes other games run fine on ultra setting. I have the entire GeForce Experience installed on my PC so I am assuming that yes the driver suite is installed. I click drivers in the GeForce program to check for new ones and upgrade my old drivers. As I said all other games work fine. I am downloading 3DMark now and will run the test and post results. Appreciate the feedback.
November 24, 20214 yr Author Just tried a FLICKR account so I could post screen captures - this is my graphic driver - will post 3DMark report after I download and run. I have Verizon FIOS 1GB service and my internet speeds seem to be fine.

The 5800x is capable of auto overclocking to 4.8 with adequate cooling and flight sims are notoriously clock-speed hungry. Is the clocking locked at 3.8? What cooling have you got in it? Also, the RAM. What clock speed is that? And again, has the BIOS been set to take advantage of that? I haven't overclocked the PC - I had someone build it for me and I haven't tried messing with that as I don't want to ruin anything. The PC has a liquid cooler on it and 5 fans in the case. Here is a HWiNFO Report on my memory

Appreciate the feedback. Ok, that rules out most of the basics already. Good to know, but less obvious to find a solution now... Edit: What's your render scaling in MSFS / options / general options / graphics? November 24, 20214 yr Author Here are the reports from 3DMark - looks good to me but I am not an expert by any means!!
November 24, 20214 yr Author Here are the game settings: The game is basically unusable. On the main screen I have to click on a menu button dozens of times for it to react and it takes forever for the next screen to come up. As I said before if I make it into a flight it is so choppy that it is impossible to do anything. Is there a way for me to post a video to show you guys? Not sure if that would be helpful.
November 24, 20214 yr Do you run MSFS with DX11 or 12? i also have a 5900x and a 3080ti. I score 20.000 points in 3D Mark and run MSFS in 4K with around 45-60 FPS. But when I switch to DX12 it’s a slide show.

I'm not looking for any details here, just wanted to be sure there are no glaring issues. Have you checked your render scaling already? Should be at 100% to begin with... You shouldn't have any problems increasing it a bit above 100, just to be sure you're not on 200% (which means rendering at 8K on a 4K monitor) For diagnostic purposes, I also suggest to turn on dev mode in general options / developers, and then turn on "Display FPS" in the "Options" menu that appears on the top of your screen. The FPS meter might give additional hints as to what's wrong inside your MSFS installation. Maybe it doesn't - but it's easy to do and worth a try. November 24, 20214 yr BTW: your 3D Mark is ok for a „non optimized system“. if you fine tune RAM, CPU and GPU you should easily score 1000-1500 points more.
November 24, 20214 yr Oh and another thing: can you check your GPU temps while running MSFS? The temps in 3D Mark look ok. But my 3080ti runs a lot hotter in MSFS. Dev mode was already suggested. You can click „show frames per second“ there and you get a display what exactly limits you.

I got it to work smoothly - I changed the setting in game from DX11 to DX12 BETA just to see what would happen and it is smooth!!! DX11 is unplayable for me. Makes no sense as everyone is saying DX12 is word not allowed! Now a side note - I am not a PC tech master - how would I fine tune my RAM, CPU and GPU to boost my performance? Appreciate how helpful everyone is!!
November 24, 20214 yr Well, it's ticked a few boxes - the CPU is auto-overclocking as it should up to or close to 4.8 and, as said above, the temps look fine. Definitely go DX11 and at first turn off photogrammetry, live traffic and live weather to take out the internet element. November 24, 20214 yr Author Now that I have the sim/game working I need to figure out the best way to control it. Tried keyboard on some of the tutorials and it was brutal - crashing left and right - seems easy to over steer. I have a thrustmaster 1600 and a throttle with it. Should I use these? The problem is when I hook them up it recognizes them but none of the buttons are premapped. Is there a way to download a map or something that is intuitive to use or do I have to customize it myself? Thank you!!! Graphis look amazing!
