Actually, it's a simulation of a game 😄 .

I just installed the game and honestly it is unplayable.

running from a hard disk or SSD/nvme? I would not recommend hard disks anymore. close all other background programs, incl. email or web browser.

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, VR: Pimax Crystal Light + HP Reverb G2 @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

Why hijack this thread about Simulator versus Game when the OP is seriously looking for some help?

On topic: On board graphics accidentally set as main GPU for MSFS? Look in the NVIDIA CP.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Uninstalled and installing again --- but this game or simulator takes hours to download!!!  Fingers crossed that it works this time as my system fully checks out and all other games work perfectly.  Appreciate everyone's input - even those criticizing me for calling it a game...... Maybe that is why it isn't running smoothly --- all my games play fine but this is a simulator after all ... 😄

Ignore the hijack about game/sim 😉

Let us know how it goes after a reload.

This has to be something basic - I have the same CPU and GPU as you and also 32G of RAM.  For 2D, I can run stuff on Ultra  (though my monitor is not 4k) and run on very respectable settings through VR on the very resource-hungry HP Reverb (4k per eye).

You quote the base clock speed of the CPU at 3.8. The 5800x is capable of auto overclocking to 4.8 with adequate cooling and flight sims are  notoriously clock-speed hungry.  Is the clocking locked at 3.8?  What cooling have you got in it?

Also, the RAM.  What clock speed is that?   And again, has the BIOS been set to take advantage of that?

It may be neither of the above...but it is going to be something basic like this and there are loads of folks around here that should be able to help you pin it down 🙂

Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset

As you can see from my signature my system is pretty similar to yours and I can assure you that something is very wrong if that's the experience you are getting. Honestly, it could be anything but ensure that you are using DX 11 and not DX 12. DX 12 is the only thing I have seen take my frame rate from a smooth 80-100FPS to a hideous and choppy 40 that feels more like 5. For whatever reason my system hates the current BETA implementation of it.

I'm just chucking an idea in though, like I said, it could be any number of things but do persist because with that system a wonderful experience awaits you if you get it working correctly.

I just signed up for the xbox microsft pc membership where I paid $1 for 3 months.  Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of the games you can play so I downloaded and installed the 120 some odd GB program.  I have turned all settings to as low as possible and have restarted the computer and it honestly plays like complete garbage - I have never seen anything so choppy.  Maybe I should completely remove it and reinstall it.  I will look to see if anything is running in the background - I did kill all my antivirus programs and malware programs.  My other games run very smooth.

It has nothing to do with the settings of the sim. Setting them low and increasing them incrementally is a waste of time. You should go for ultra settings without any problem.

If you have disabled your anti-virus or put the sim in the white list,I see at least four possible issues :

- a problem with the streaming. Is your internet connection working well ?

- the computer is getting hot and throttling down the CPU/ GPU. Check the temp and the working of the fans. Do not overclock as on some machines MSFS reacts badly to it!

- a corrupted install. I do not generally advise a re-install which is most often useless but you might be the exception.

- a particularity of your computer setup that we don't know

PS this is a game, don't be ashamed to say it 🤣

Reinstalled it last night and tried again this morning......same problem.  So disappointing.  This is a picture of my task manager when running the sim/game - so doesn't look like my system is overly taxed --- ugh can't figure out how to put a screenshot in this reply.  I tried the snip feature of windows but I can't paste it in.  Any guidance on putting screen grabs in these replies as I might be able to show you info to help solve this.

My CPU usage % is around 15%, memory is 28% - only thing that looks odd it says power usage Very High for Flight Simulator in task manager.

This looks very probable, is your monitor connected to the 3080TI? @jowens36

you need to register with a shelter site like Imgur and Flickr. Upload the image to it  and then drop the link they will give you into your post.

It would be useful if you provided us with some more information. Are other games/programs with 3D graphics running nominally? Try to install and run the free version of 3DMark, that gives a good baseline for diagnostics.

Did you install the Nvidia driver suite?

As far as I know, the 5800X doesn't have a built-in GPU, so I would rule out that possibility.
