Hello!  Brand new to Microsoft Flight Simulator.  I just installed the game and honestly it is unplayable.  Clicking on items in the menu screen takes forever and when I finally get through and into a flight the game is insanely choppy and not responsive.  It seems like the FPS is really slow - commands to bring up menus take forever.  I keep going into settings and lowering detail to low and changing resolution but nothing seems to help.  Any suggestions?  I am running it on a newer PC - AMD Ryzen 7 5800x 8 Core 3.80 GHZ, 32 GB Memory, with a 3080TI video card and a Samsung G9 Ultrawide Monitor.  the game is literally unplayable so something is not right.  I have updated my GeForce video drivers to the latest version.  Thanks for the assistance!

Should run great on your system. Where did y ou buy it , steam or the MS Store?

The first thing I would do is to change the graphics settings to very low values. Your system should be fine with ultra settings, but for the sake of testing I would start low. If that helps, check out the process manager (ctrl + alt + del) and see if any other processes are running in the background. MSFS is incredibly well optimized and should easily get you 50fps.

Run a benchmark on your computer to rule out hardware failures to begin with, your computer should be able to run the game at Ultra without any problems.

Don't laugh, just trying to help! Did you do a restart? I would uninstall any Nvidia drivers and do a clean driver install.... something to try....

Most of what is said on the Internet may be the same thing they shovel on the regular basis at the local barn.

I sounds like something is running in the background or the installation is corrupt somehow.

  1. Download HW Info https://www.hwinfo.com and run it. Check your RAM, GFX card, cooling, fans etc.
  2. Download GPU-Z https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ and keep it running on the sensor tab. Keep it onscreen as the game is running and observe the sensor graphs. Watch GPU load.          spacer.png
  3. In nVidia control center enable the "display icon in notification area" this lets you mouse over and the pop up tells you which program is using the card.
  4. As someone else asked - are other games running fine?
  5. Do you have GeForce Experience installed? Disable its auto-optimization feature.
  6. Some security software can get a bit too happy and scan folders needlessly.

If there are still issues and you're comfortable doing so turn off the PC, open it up and make sure everything is seated properly, GFX card, RAM etc. However if your answer to #4 is "No" then theres no need to do this.

Your system is new and powerful and should run this game with no problems.  I run the game on a 13 yr old i7 920 PC and it runs perfectly with zero problems. Try the game, play with the settings. Good luck.

I just signed up for the xbox microsft pc membership where I paid $1 for 3 months.  Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of the games you can play so I downloaded and installed the 120 some odd GB program.  I have turned all settings to as low as possible and have restarted the computer and it honestly plays like complete garbage - I have never seen anything so choppy.  Maybe I should completely remove it and reinstall it.  I will look to see if anything is running in the background - I did kill all my antivirus programs and malware programs.  My other games run very smooth.

I guess it's official after XBOX's release every reference to the Flight Simulator is 'game'.  I feel like others your system should be able to run the 'Simulator' without issue.  I just cringe at where our hobby may be headed if this terminology continues to be accepted.

I think that when it is on X box, it officially becomes a game.

Game? What's the competition? Earth? Though it is GAME of the year. 🙂

Your system should be able to run FS2020 perfectly on Ultra settings.

If I were you, I would take it to my local computer store and get them to check it out. Not worth the hasstle and frustration. Life is too short.

Uninstalled and installing again --- but this game or simulator takes hours to download!!!  Fingers crossed that it works this time as my system fully checks out and all other games work perfectly.  Appreciate everyone's input - even those criticizing me for calling it a game...... Maybe that is why it isn't running smoothly --- all my games play fine but this is a simulator after all ... 😄
