Simaddons - Any opinions?

Featured Replies

Yesterday I did a search for some Canadian airports on Google, and came across a scenery developer, that I'd not heard of before: SimAddons.com

They appear to have developed a huge library of airports in Canada for MSFS (as well as older sims), and from the screenshots available, the quality looks like it ranges from fairly average, to really quite good (with interior detailing on some of the airports). They also appear to have added some season changes for trees (at least in the vicinity of the airports, and animations for things like the de-icer verhicles).

I've never seen them advertised on any of the regular news sites, or mentioned in forums etc, so wanted to know if anyone who does know them has any opinions about the quality of the scenery?

Thanks!

Simaddons is a one-man company. For many years, Ralph was the only developer who created Canadian quality sceneries for FSX and P3D. I bought all his work for P3D and they were the airports where I flew most often to. I haven't gotten his MSFS sceneries yet, but I plan to do that for Christmas. Ralph often makes a sale around Christmas, and he keeps good contact with his customers. Probably my favourite scenery developer, even though his work would not normally compete with the likes of FlyTampa or Flightbeam. His work is always accurate and I recommend him highly.

Hi Peter,

Thanks a lot for the recommendation! I'll keep a close eye on the website over the next week or two then, and will give it a go. I'm always happy to support independent developers too!

As said above, visual quality is not amazing, but accuracy and small details are really good. It feels like a good, handcrafted thing from someone who knows his stuff. The airports feel "authentic", for the lack of a better wording. I haven't tried in MSFS though (only P3D), so maybe visual quality has improved here thanks to MSFS' core foundation.

EDIT: Oh yes I forgot, support is excellent. That really pays out in those MSFS days, where devs release stuff, take the money and be gone.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

I've been a customer of Ralph for probably 10 years. Customer service and follow up if needed are excellent. His forum is great. Also FPS hit is minimal. I have most of his sceneries and am very pleased with them. Recommended.

I grabbed CYQT and one other airport a while back and I was very impressed! They are a bit pricey if not on sale but still worth it!

I haven't tried any for MSFS but in P3d v5, he was one of the VERY Few devs to do sloped airports and they looked fantastic. He has definitely upped his game over the years which was needed from the older stuff.

His MSFS ones are better quality. I have owned all his stuff for p3d, now enjoying it in MSFS.

Thanks all for the feedback. I’ll definitely buy some of his MSFS airports and will report back how I get on. I don’t know the mechanics/economics of selling scenery for Flight Sim, but if he comes this highly recommended he should really consider selling via some of the other publishers/platforms as well.
