Creating a mod for an Asobo airplane

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been around flight sim for many years now, and now, in my dotage, I'm trying to field questions in flightsim.to, and I've come across yet another one that my limited expertise doesn't help me with.

It's from a member over there who wants to add cargo into the Asobo TantJu, and I don't know whether its' even possible (although, from the number of mods that have been made to Asobo airplanes, I assume that it can be done).

This is a link to the question: https://forums.flightsim.to/thread/1242-cargo-version-junkers-52/?postID=3833#post3833

I would really appreciate it if someone who is familiar with this type of mod could give me some guidance as to how it might be done, and appreciate it even more if someone here who knows how to do this would take over the thread in Flightsim. To for me.

Thanking you all in anticipation

John Glossop

My understanding is that because the Ju-52 is encrypted (like any content bought from the Marketplace), it's not possible to modify any parts of the 3d model unless Asobo drastically changes how their encryption scheme works.

Confirmed. Impossible.

Yes impossible. Although Joerg said in one of the regular 3 person interviews a couple months ago that he would have no problem to unlock the flight modification part of the plane files. As long as enough remained locked that it could not be stolen. But so far have heard nothing further.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

This is interesting. I hadn't really thought about it before, but what exactly is the value of a 'stolen' default aircraft on the black market?

Who would steal it? Everyone already has it. I guess someone could decompose the model files into Blender or 3DS max and then export them to X-Plane or P3D but what is there to "steal"? A good model of a Ju-52 looks just like every other good model of a Ju-52 these days. Everyone is getting good at modeling. So someone might take a shortcut and use an exported Asobo model. but what did they really take? The amount of hours it would have took them to start from scratch and end up with the identical result. I fully support IP, but for crying out loud. They are worried about people stealing something that A.) Everybody already has. and B.) You already sold it to them and C.) Can't be used without something that they will be required to purchase from you in the off chance that they somehow ended up in the possession of a "stolen" Ju-52 and no simulator.

Edit: I am not suggesting that they unlock any custom WASM modules, animations, or controls. Those are things they are well within their rights to keep close to the vest. All I'm taking about is the ability for us to replace any modules that they might not want to unlock, to be able to add physical details to the model (like cargo, modified undercarriages, antennas, paints, etc.) and of course modify the flight model. .

Not everyone has everything.

The aircraft (and anything else) that are encrypted are for the premium and premium deluxe versions of the sim, plus anything paid for from the market place. The aircraft (and anything else) that come with the standard version or are free in the market place are not encrypted.

I'm guessing I don't have to explain any further why the premium and premium deluxe aircraft and paid market place stuff are encrypted, right? 😉

I've never understood this either.  Having the cfgs by themselves is about as useless as a screen door on a submarine lol.

Oh no...someone got the stock longitude aircraft.cfg hahahah - (it's really bad BTW)

Yeah, thats why peoples asked for those .cfg files since launch. I`m guessing they just didnt think that someone will need access to those files and they bundled everything under encryption. When they understoud that players only want config files for moding and not the model they said that could be done but i`m guessing again that is very very low on a priority list if ever.
