Simbrief uses almost no airways

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

SO, lockdown again, thought I'll visit some new airports with MSFS. Got navigraph (wow!) and wanted to do a short hop to Moscow from Schiphol.

Simbrief gives me this route:

EHAM/24 AND2SY ANDIK N873 GRONY DCT EEL DCT WSN DCT HAM DCT MEGAR DCT SONAL DCT BALOX DCT ETRUS DCT PENOR DCT BALIT DCT PLG DCT SUBOR DCT BERIL DCT TUSAS DCT ALMIK M864 DIPOP DIPO3F UUEE/06R

Only directs. Why is this? I mean, I'm sure there are airways in between, right? Yesterday, it did the same to grand canaries.

Any tips?

Cheers

Vic

Many airways seem to be disappearing: look at Navigraph charts.  For example, all the airways across the Bay of Biscay have gone.  I'm not sure if that's due to fewer flights due to Covid permitting more fuel efficient direct-to's or better navigation equipment removing the need for airways to ensure separation.

Brest FIR is part of the FRA, hence the reason why all airways from Spain terminates at Southern border of Brest FIR (LFRR NW sector 1).

As a side note, Sweden is also part of FRA but have retained short portions of our airways (I have no idea why, I'm not a controller)

I bought Pilot2ATC a little while ago and have been browsing here on this site because of the many helpful posts about that software. Setting up airways in Pilot2ATC was a bit confusing for me so I found a bit of long-winded work around.

What I do is to use Navigraph Charts to auto-generate a route from A to B - eg EGKA to EGPE -  using manual input and either high or low airways. I then take that output and copy/paste the 'Type Route' into Simbrief. Simbrief validates the route, as appropriate.

I then of course, use Pilot2ATC and forget to put the cleared fight plan into my GPS or FMS 🙄

My method is not perfect but it will usually give you airways.

PS EGKA DCT WOBUN T418 WELIN T420 TNT UN57 POL UN601 TLA N601 GRICE P600 FINDO DCT EGPE is from Navigraph charts. Try it in Simbrief.

Hi,

Have also begun using the same method based on the OPs original issue. Let Navigraph charts generate your auto-routing first, feed that into Simbrief via the Route field and do final tweaking with SIDS and STARS there based on using the Find STAR/SID function.

I will usually update the selected STAR/SID back in Navigraph charts as a last step so that both Charts and Simbrief OFP match.
