Pricing should be better for graphic cards.

Fully agree there. Oh yes, I am patient enough to wait for fall. I expect that prices for PC's won't get cheaper, at least not very much. We'll just have to wait and see.

You can see that a 3090 performs better than a 3080. A 3060 will be better than a 3050.

As one would expect. Thank you for this information.

A 3050 shouldn't even be a thought in any upgrade.  The only reason to buy one is if your current card died and even then......

Bottom line .. Replace GPU now  (while prices are high).. Short term fix

Upgrade the platform now within your budget and upgrade the gpu later in the year when prices may fall (Currently slowly trending lower) .. long term fix.

Pick what you want to do .

Stay with what you've got...  Another perfectly viable option. 🙂

Yes, I decided to stay with what I have got and wait till later this year to eventually buy new hardware. In the event my current video card will die, I'll go for a temporary replacement.

Hans van WIjhe

Agreed.. Until you've saved enough and the prices come down enough to get a decent complete (customized) system.  In the mean time .. Do your homework and read some reviews. and make sure it applies to your use case.

Sorry @Bert Pieke for not initially mentioning this option ( I guess for me it doesn't feel quite right since its the inaction option) but you may be correct in this case.

Cheers

Waiting is difficult, I know but I think it's the prudent thing to do for now.  Can't wait forever so this fall better not disappoint 🙁

Nope!

If you are bent on gpu upgrade a 2080 super would be plenty sufficient as you are gonna be heavily CPU bound anyway.

Turn on “Dev mode” for counter and see for yourself.

With everything on “High” @ 2k on my i9 9900k oc @ 4.8ghz on my 2080 super I’m heavily CPU bound one core one and roughly 50% usage on my GPU.

hvw, I think the Bobcat is right in message #8 that a GPU will do you more good than a new CPU for MSFS. This is the opposite of the way it was for FSX and other previous flightsims where the CPU was more important back then.

I think Michael LowI is correct that the RTX 3060 ti is much better than the RTX 3060 and maybe only about 50 euros more. Does not really matter if it only has 8GB instead of 12. When MSFS first came out in Aug 2020, an RTX 3060ti if it had existed back then would have been very near the top of the list.

If you buy an AMD GPU then you won't be able to use DLSS. DLSS will give you way more fps at the same MSFS video settings (so they say).

DLSS requires RTX 20 and 30 series (so they say). You won't be able to use DLSS with GPU you have now. Asobo is saying SU10 or SU11 for DLSS (late this year, maybe October?).

The size of your case might limit any bigger GPU card (probably not but maybe).

The power of your present power supply has to be enough to run new video card in the computer you have now. You need to check the watts of a new and old video card. The new one will use more watts, but maybe not too much more.

Not true on my system with a 2080 super at 2k and high settings w/ 200 lod!

My gpu is only running at 50% max while my cpu core one is struggling heavily and in the red!

Thats in dev mode with the fps counter in game on an i9 9900k of to 4.8ghz.
