You may want to refer to a few recent reviews. Bang for the bucks is still better with AMD. And I really doubt that upgrading the 1080ti will do any noticeable good things in 1080p. Like I said. I also had a 6700k and a 1080ti and switched to a 5900x with the 1080ti and then replaced it with a 3080ti. And I replaced the GPU only because I run in 4K.
February 4, 20224 yr Going back to the OP's situation, he has a NVidia Geforce GTX 1060. Which is definitely a bottleneck. High display MSFS settings, where my 2060 super gets 59 fps his 1060 gets 31 fps For Ultra settings Where he's getting 23 fps, I'm getting 44 on this chart at Ultra settings with 2k monitor. Of course these charts are with a faster cpu than either of we two have. I actually get about 31 instead of 44 fps in dense scenery with everything set at Ultra. https://www.tomshardware.com/features/microsoft-flight-simulator-benchmarks-performance-system-requirements I got to say he's on the right track thinking of a new video card. He should be able to almost double the fps, I would guess. Go for a new video card now (or in the near future) or wait till later this year when hardware (pc's) might be cheaper and then buy a new pc or for the time being continue with just what I have got now and with which I am quite happy? It's only the gut feeling that I want more, call it the Olympic thoughts of higher, faster, stronger. After reading all the information that everybody provide me with, I guess I must listen to my common sense and stay with what I have got now and decide later this year how to proceed. February 4, 20224 yr Bottom line .. Replace GPU now (while prices are high).. Short term fix Upgrade the platform now within your budget and upgrade the gpu later in the year when prices may fall (Currently slowly trending lower) .. long term fix. Pick what you want to do . GPU's are still difficult to find, but new systems that contain those same GPUs are now relatively easy to find. I just did exactly this. Lucky enough to grab a 3070 in early December to pair with an i7-6700, which unfortunately didn’t fit in the old case. So I needed a new case at least, and figured I’d get new PSU while I’m at it. At this point I just said what the heck, and got new components for a new build with an i7-12700KF. Cost was almost exactly $1,000 as mentioned. Finished yesterday and played a little Battlefield 2042 and it was glorious with all settings maxed . I should have MSFS running today. Cant wait to see it in action.

Not necessarily a bad thing as current stuff is pretty good now but future upgrades will necessitate additional component changes Wait until fall, if you can. New AMD Zen 4 CPU (AMD usually doesn't require motherboard changes as often as intel does when they release new gen CPU). Intel 13th Gen CPU. Next gen Nvidia and AMD graphic cards. Intel Graphic cards. Pricing should be better for graphic cards. DDR5 pricing, availability and specs. Gen 5 NVME drives. Older parts likely somewhat cheaper when new gen stuff out if you decide to go that route. I'm waiting, though while I have basically the same CPU as you and some additional RAM I do have a better graphics card which is making things more manageable.
February 4, 20224 yr You can see that a 3090 performs better than a 3080. A 3060 will be better than a 3050. February 4, 20224 yr Perhaps a slightly better comparison: 1080 vs 3090 ( see above the difference between 3080 vs 3090 ). A 3060 will be better than the 1080. And as he wants 1080p he will have a good card at both the 3050 or 3060…. February 4, 20224 yr To me a new video card will give you a boost but not what you think. I ran 2020 with a 1080TI and 4900k Haswell processor and got good performance. I have since upgraded to a more current Processor and a 3080 which works much better, the visuals and everything else just work better. If I was you, I would save up and get a new system and put off the video card for now. Josh CPU: Intel i9-11900K @5.2 / RAM: 64GB DDR4 3200 / GPU: 4080 16GB /
