A user tip for those running MSFS in 'G' mode...

Recommended Posts

I do not use an internal CACHE of any kind.  That statement put out,  and while I wish to use and enjoy MSFS in a 'G' scenery config,  I noticed that the much better and colored roads, ---->highway, secondary, tertiary,  had a weird mixture of the much better looking (with lane lines and oil spots, car truck imprints) of 'G', over Bing (native) with its thin cream colored lanes and not the concrete/asphalt colors of my 'G' config....  I had roadways and highways that had segments of the native BING roadway graphics and textures included with the 'G' textures.

Since I know that you can get this, if you have any sort of a CACHE set up, or switch back and forth between BING native, and 'G'.  I don't...but, still had a mixture of roadway (and other ground textures intermixed.

So, on a hunch,  as we have seen that updates can mess around with internal coding, and cause anomalies that you did not expect, (with your in sim settings not altered), I went to where you find the SCENERY CACHE settings and even though my settings showed NO CACHE, and a setting of '0'.  I still used the DELETE button on the CACHE.  It said one moment, and then the whatever 'OK'...   Remember, that I had no CACHE setting and it in the sim showed my setting of a 0 CACHE (not enabled!).

I fired up my FBO, where I KNEW, there was going to be a mixture of the BING and 'G' roadway textures...flew over that section of the Interstate, and HUZZAH....only uninterrupted 'G" roadways and their appropriate textures now displayed.  I flew over a city section of the 'burb, and they now were fully and only 'G' visuals.

So, as we have seen, there are some weird (sneaky)  bugs that although your settings are this way and that...the actual MSFS can be injecting 'stuff' you are not wishing to have called upon.   So I suggest if you are using MSFS in the 'G' format, or you sometimes switch back and forth and you have your CACHE settings not enabled...I recommend that you STILL use the DELETE button, as that will clean up,  what I will call 'a scenery depiction bug'.  After I did that...I then only had a 'pure' 'G' depiction up there on the monitor!

Cheers,

Whoa!  Careful Ses! you nearly said the forbidden word there!    I have still to try 'G' mode.  It seems quite popular, and I am getting sick of the green roads.

Call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind, but I prefer Rob.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Yeah, I know...I almost slipped....."shhhhhhhh"!!!!!!   LOL!

I have done many (maybe too many, lol)  A/B  'G' and Bing same flight same outside view comparison,  and very much concentrated in the wonderful state of Michigan...and personally feel that 'G' as a letter, is vastly superior to 'B'....lol.   Just my personal take, and enjoyment thereof.  The roads,  are so much better defined, with actual lane lines, as well as some pot holes, oil and wear marks, and in some cases, traffic (car and truck, motorcycle, RV) imprints upon them, which looks good, even with A.I. running above.  There are plenty of secondary and tertiary roads that are barely covered by A.I. (many farm and country/county roads...but with some Mr. 'G' imprinting, looks very good at 2,800 and above...looks 'alive' and used.    Hey...people actually live at those rural properties...!  🙂

Cheers n' Beers

I've noticed with the latest "G' mod there are several additional Map Servers available for choice (even one that says Bing "latest" vs Bing "in game".  I intend to take a look at all server options and judge for myself but in the meantime, is there anyone that has tried the "new" servers and can provide their opinions ? Thanks.

I love "M" Flight Simulator, under "W"11, with the "G" Mode on my "S" monitor, using my "H" Alpha and Bravo devices.

Now... time for a fresh "C" beer !
