Hmm... that's a shame, as the conflict will make her less trusting of you. I'm wondering if she had a rough time before you got her and was mistreated.

When we moved our cat from the UK to Guernsey, a long drive to Southampton and quite a few hours on the ferry, we gave a few squirts of Feliway Classic cat pheromones on the blanket in his cat carrier. It did seem to help calm him. We were expecting a nightmare, wasn't fun, but not as bad as we expected.

Be aware though, there was a study that detected zero effect form Feliway.

When i took a 4 months old kitten from a shelter i was informed she was originally found in a field all alone and caught with a catch cage when she was only 7 weeks old! She also already had been taken home from the shelter by somebody...and brought back to the shelter for being too aggressive to this person's other cats. So not a very good start for her. When we met in the shelter i only got a glimpse to see of her as she hid away, full of fear.

When i took her in she indeed was aggressive to my 2 other cats, but i just knew we could earn her trust. Fast forward 7 months later:  It's been a pretty long process but bit by bit she trusted me more and more. Now she's playing and having fun with my other cats, of which one is only about 5 days older than her. She trusts me and my other cats almost completely now, but her experience with the catch cage has proven to be a big trauma. When i stick out my hand to her too fast she immediately becomes defensive still, she ducks and growls and her hair stands out. Luckily i can pinpoint that to the catch cage so i know the exact reason for her anxiety. It will take several years and very small steps but i just know that with enough love and patience she will heal from that too. I never took in a cat from a shelter before, let alone a cat in her mental condition, but In the end it's already been the most beautiful and awarding experience for both my cat and me, and i feel very thankful for that.

 

You definitely deserve one of on my special cat points. A gold one. I very rarely award them.

DON'T tell the others.  They just get bog standard cat points. There will be all kinds of trouble.

Well..... This super-shyness had to come from somewhere....

Its likely she was never really socialized as a kitten.

That, or as you say, something happened to her in the past.

I've blocked access to beneath the bed, and during the night she has made several (that I know of) surreptitious attempts to race across and get underneath there, only to find it inaccessible.

These thwarted efforts on her part lead to a retreat to her new spot behind the dresser, and a few mournful Meows.

She has informed me officially that I suck, vowed revenge, and given notice that she knows where I sleep.

Oh, and thanks for the food.

I think your Dreamies are the same as our Temptations.  The packaging is identical.  So is the effect on cats.  I only give them three at a time.

Fantastic news.

I remember my cat when we moved to Guernsey, he found a hiding spot on top of the kitchen cupboards, he would drop down between two cupboards. Nightmare getting him out. He could get in but not out. Its still blocked up now so he cant get in, thankfully he doesn't feel the need now, perfectly at home.

Getting up this morning, saw Nala across the room, and not wanting to startle her, slowly started getting out of bed. At that point, she apparently made up her mind about me, raced across the room and skidded to a halt, then, staring up at me, she started meowing…

Well, now I was the startled one, and warily I meowed back. Suddenly there was a cat in bed with me who was determined to be petted. Pretty abrupt state change on her part!? 🐈

Hours later… She’s been following me around meowing for attention occasionally all day. I have to say, I wasn’t expecting this sort of behavior out of her for weeks, if not months, especially considering the shelter saying that after over a year, they could barely pet her, occasionally.
