March 9, 20224 yr I bought FSDT scenery for Louisville, but I can't install it because I don't have GSX (it didn't say I needed GSX). I would like to know if all FSDT airports need GSX installed in order to install the airports? If not, which airports don't need GSX? I don't have GSX because I don't fly airlines that much. I fly mostly biz jets, large GA aircraft (like the king Air 200), military aircraft, and helicopters. When I do fly airlines it would be cargo planes and turbo props mostly.
March 9, 20224 yr GSX works with the FSDT airports without need for a paid GSX registration. You can download and install GSX for free and it will work with FSDT's airports. Look at the system requirements in this link. No mention of GSX. Almost all our airports ( at least the recent ones ) require GSX to be installed, if only for the jetways, but in case of KSDF, it adds support for the unique UPS cargo stands, which are one of the most unique features on the airport. GSX is not indicated in the system requirements because: - It's entirely FREE to use at all our airport so, it's just an extra download. - If a PC is capable to run the scenery, it will surely be capable to running GSX. In addition to that, all installer for sceneries that DO require GSX, like KSDF, have a very clear message at start saying so. And, the same sentence which say the installation can't proceed without GSX, it also say GSX is FREE to use there so, in theory, nobody should think "I cannot install because I don't *have* GSX", when the license doesn't matter, and it's just an extra download. March 9, 20224 yr Moderator @virtuali, I stand corrected but I feel it would still be helpful if the requirement for GSX was mentioned for those airports requiring it. The fact it’s free is immaterial. Ray (Cheshire, England). March 9, 20224 yr Author Thanks guys. I did not know I can use GSX for free. And I agree with Ray. I think it would be a good idea if you mention that you need GSX installed to install certain airports.

That's only because you haven't paid attention to the message that said you couldn't install the scenery without GSX. This is a copy of what the installation message you must have seen, because you said you couldn't install the scenery without GSX: This scenery requires GSX Level 2 Expansion to create Jetways and Safegates, please download and install the latest GSX Full installer, before installing this scenery. GSX Level 2 Expansion is FREE to use at all FSDT airports. Quote And I agree with Ray. I think it would be a good idea if you mention that you need GSX installed to install certain airports. There's always the risk the same people that don't read the message from the installer which says GSX must be installed first and it's FREE to use, won't read the same sentence on the web page, and might end up not buying the scenery because they thought they had to buy something extra in order to use it. We'll add this to the product description, although I'm skeptical: the system requirements have indicated Windows 7 is no longer supported since 2 years, yet people seem to ignore it entirely. March 9, 20224 yr Author I did see and read the message when I went to install Louisville. I bought Louisville but didn't have the money for GSX (I bought some other airports too). So I thought I wouldn't be able to install the scenery until after I bought GSX. And the part where it says it's free to use at all FSDT airports I thought it ment that after you bought it, it would be free to work at the other airports. I guess I need to read better.

That's precisely why the sentence said "free to use at all FSDT airports", to clarify if you are on an FSDT airport (you are *installing* one!! ), you can use it for free *there*. A purchase it's only required to be used everywhere else. In any case, the web site has been updated by including GSX as a *FREE* requirement for all products that requires it. Virtuali is correct -- there is a difference between 'supported' and 'functioning'. Supported generally means code/driver updates. No one is arguing that Win7 is not functional anymore. Other than Windows Defender (and the one update for a major security issue) when was the last time you had an update? Not arguing with any of that. I don't pay attention to Windows updates, I tend to let them do their thing. FSDT Live updates still work fine, my addons are totally up to date, and work fine. That includes the recent major update. Which was the point I was making. I understand that support for these products is no longer offered and that's fair enough. Rashid Yacine
