"Mandatory Game Update Available." Huh?

Featured Replies

....and that's as far as I get.  Can't get into MSFS at all, the prompt just takes me to the Microsoft Store, where I can't find anything about a MSFS update.  What's THIS all about?  (I have Windows 11)

The message to go to the Microsoft store seems wrong, at least on my system.

For me, trying to upgrade at the MS Store is useless and does not upgrade.

What DOES work is going to the XBOX app and upgrading from there.

I can't even get far enough to access the app.  I get the opening screen, and then it starts to go to the Sidney Austrailia screen which I guess I'm stuck with, and then it stops and tells me a mandatory update is available.  I clock on the "OK" and it send me to the MS store.  This is turning out to be a very finicky game, nothing like the older FS's I used.

The Xbox app will be in your windows start menu. You need to run that and start the game/updates from in there.

Here we go again...

Download the Win 10 Media Creation Tool or Win 11 Media Creation Tool (depending what OS you are using) by clicking on "Download Tool Now" and follow the instructions the tool gives, making sure to select the option to retain your files and apps. This doesn't wipe Windows or delete anything, it's actually a repair rather than installation tool when used this way. If it works, you should then be able to launch the sim successfully. This step solves many issues with the sim not starting or failing to update.

True. Most FS's hardly had any updates which made that process much less cumbersome. Instead of updates being fixed we just learned to accept them.

What do you do at the store?

Don't you click the Library icon and update all of your programs?

I get the same problem..for me I close the sim then restart it and then the update works

I got the usual mandatory update message, went to the microsoft store, clicked on LIBRARY at the bottom left side. It listed all that I own/installed. clicked GET UPDATES in the R/H top part of the screen.  It found the MSFS upadate & did its bit. It theprobgam told me there was a MANDATORY UPDATE again. Downloaded that update & the game ran. Then updated the content manager updates.

all a bit fiddly but it worked.

I have the same issues: I updated firstly via Microsoft Store and then downloaded the ingame update. However, nothing seem to change. There is no XBOX App update available on my end. Happening the first time.

MSFS Version: 1.24.5.0

@109Sqn above gave a good hint !

A friend used that method sometime ago after a similar ssue and that was the cure....

I didn't know to even do that, slow learning curve here I guess.  Thanks for the tip.
