ATC wants my Baron to climb to FL280?

Featured Replies

On a flight from KSAV to KJAX, IFR victor airways, default scenery, default Baron, ATC instructs me to climb to FL 280! The fllight plan was  filed for 6000 ft. I tried requesting a lower cruising altitude, but was denied. Finally cancelled IFR, and proceeded VFR. Is this a problem with the scenery or with ATC? I miss the old Radar Contact ATC.

I have been using PF3 for the last 8+ years. Never have problems like that.

I have had the same problem.  I think when V and J airways overlap, ATC uses the J airway restrictions.  That's my guess.

Same issue. MSFS ATC is very rough. I have tried to use it a few times and it is so bad I’d rather not use it at all. As Bobsk8 says, use a third party solution or fly without ATC. “Please expedite your descent” is about all the default ATC can say.

I think you may be on to something. I make my flight plans using Lil Nav, then import to MSFS. I'll experiment with staying away from J routes.

It's a problem with MSFS. I'm routinely instructed to high altitude airways when flying with a low altitude airway filed flightplan. It doesn't matter if I restrict the my flight level in the built-in flight planner or not, ATC often exceeds that. Not only that, sometimes I'm instructed several thousand feet above the aircraft's (pick any one) actual ceiling.

I could forgive ATC not knowing my aircraft's ceiling, but at least stick to the rules governing the flightplan you filed (oh, and give me a "can not comply" command 😉).

Yeah, the ATC is really not very usable.  In thinking about this retrospectively,  I recall how excited I was prior the 'new' flight simulator release...

  • Beautiful aircraft where all the gauges work! - yeah, sort of, went to the mods immediately
  • ATC with Vatsim integration, oboy! - again, with two weeks I had to plug in my Pilot2ATC
  • Hand crafted selection of some major airports, perfect! - not happening, gates, buildings, taxiways very poor, have now purchased most
  • Realworld navigation database, incredible! - not so much, missing a good 30% of what Navigraph offers, so bought that
  • AI full integration, way cool! - actually not cool at all, poor models, actions, liveries, turned off and went full AIG

Working...

  • Streaming photo images, say what? - yeah, this works pretty well, cool
  • Live weather, amazing! - nice for me at least, need to get some type of cirrus going though.

I have implied on this forum before, I cant help but think this is a essentially conceived as a tech demonstrator for streaming world imagery utilizing Azure with a attached GUI in the shape of a cockpit.  With that said, I think it is still a great beginning and am waiting to see this in the next five years.  Assuming the MS server farm for this product doesn't  switch over to support a new MS live action role playing fantasy game of some type.

Relax. It's likely only an in-type checkride/certification test! Don't bite! LOL!
