And Dune got SIX Oscars. Well deserved and pleases me greatly.

Will Smith slapping Chris Rock across the face of course. Err... tacking the mic and making a statement about why it was a disrespectful and hurtful joke may have been better than violence. 🙄

I'm so glad that that "The Power Of The Dog" did not win Best Picture as everyone predicted...  But Jane Campion won Best Director for it:  She deserved it. It's not easy to direct a two hour film without a discernible plot...   

I am happy about Dune it is great one Sci-Fi gets recognition. Haven't seen Coda I will check that out now

I didn't like the slap but to me it looked like he used the old Hollywood trickery on that one, like the do on the film sets. Not condoning violence but that was my first impression, he is a good actor and trained to do exactly that kind of hit where you don't really hit someone. But it looks real bad non the less and will be the talk show and talk radio topic of the week. 

I totally missed the connection of "GI Jane 2" and alopecia...

...but then I was unaware of just what alopecia was, and that his wife had lost her hair due to it.  I don't pay much (read: none) to Hollywood shenanigans.

Now, having learned the circumstances, that "joke" simply was in very poor taste and should never been uttered.

The winner was a nice non controversial story, sort of. A girl who is the only one in the family who can hear. She is the age where she wants to go to college, but her parents object because she is their only ears on the world.

I was mad as H about Smith fisticuffs, until I realized KR was making fun of his wife's medical problem. Reminds me of the time Alec Baldwin was in the news and so the paparazzi were following his wife around asking rude questions every day. After some warnings Alec threw a punch. I can't really blame him. Princess Di would still be alive if not for that sort of thing.

Yep. I missed all this but the way it was reported on a news channel i automatically think what is WS playing at.

This morning i read this thread and get the full picture. Appalling thing to say, especially at a massive public event.

Nope, it was real, a girly slap with plenty of time to duck, but real. Hence the aggression and profanity that followed.

Correct, but there's a chance he had no idea about her condition, and to be honest, I don't care what somebody says, there is no excuse for violence. Smith was out of control and such a loss of control is a dangerous thing. To be that out of control in a public event like The Oscars is worrying. What surprised me was that Smith was laughing at the joke, it was only after he noticed his wife's disapproval that he decided it was time for violence.

Wonder if he would have done the same thing if it were someone his own size. 

Not impressed I'm afraid. Not nice for all the other actors who were receiving awards after, either. It was supposed to be one of the highlights of their careers. 

 

 

Best cinematography Oscar for Dune and best sound. Which I particularly agree with. Visually is was great. A bit blurry and not pin sharp definition, but I'll forgive them that.
