Hi guys,

Anybody worked out yet how to mow the grass on the grass airports?

It's exceedingly long and highly unrealistic at that length.

Grass height comes from the terrain texture, the greener, the higher.

So to cut It It down your need to either change the aerial image, adding a polygon or an apron with a  different grass texture and play with colors and transparecy,

or use an object with environment occluder material just above the ground this solution require the object to be aligned with the slope of the area where you want the grass to be cut, because you don't want the occluder to clip the ground ( this Will cause a Deep black hole in there)

I believe I saw a freeware addon on flightsim.to for this a while back. One of those robots IIRC that works autonomously after a bit of input like grass length etc.

What we need is a colaboration project between Asobo and Giants to bring the Krone mowers from Farm Sim into MSFS. 😉

It's also one of my pet peeves. I've heard from some scenery developers that there's no really simple way of solving the issue. I haven't seen any freeware that solves this - only tree height tweaks.

Try Roundup and you won't need to mow 😉

I want it mowed, not killed !!

I experimented with the “controlled by terrain colour” theory a few sim updates ago, and at that time it did seem that colour didn’t matter.

I started with a full colour spectrum grid and turned it into a aerial image. I combed the grid and thought there was some truth it it initially. There’s definitely a grass to no-grass colour threshold (from what I recall if there’s anything in the green channel).
Using a 3D ruler I made I focused on a colour where the grass was shorter and laid down a big aerial image of just that colour. The result was grass of varying lengths over the coverage area. Seems the grass length is just longer in some areas and shorter in others either in a pattern or randomly.

I’ll have to redo the experiment with the latest updates at some point, but it was quite time consuming.
