Westjet Cargo - WIP

Featured Replies

Last week, Westjet took delivery of their first of four 737-800 BCF conversions. The aircraft arrived in Calgary with a temporary registration. Has not flown again since arrival and no info yet on the new Canadian registration.

So far, there are only 4 photos online to work from...and none depicting the inside of the winglets.

This one is still very much a "work in progress"....cool livery though!

Thanks for the feedback...much appreciated!

A couple more photos tonight...elected to add the temp registration...not sure if I'll publish this one "as-is"....or wait for the Canadian Registration (and some actual photos of the inside winglets).

One disappointing thing I came across while painting this one...the main cargo door on the PMDG 800 BDF is a little (well, more than a little!) aft of this actual aircraft. Viewing the external livery, this should be fairly close to the original...once photos start emerging of the real aircraft, the port side "Westjet" banner is not going to line up with the actual aircraft with the main cargo door open. Oh well...

I still think it's a really sharp livery!

Great paint Rob.....but funny looking 767 I must say. 😉

I think there are few 737 "freighter" types....the BCF and BDSF...hit up Google for a detailed read...Its been a while since I read up on it...but I KNOW the BCF is "converted" by Boeing, and I "think" the BDSF is converted by another company.   Could be why the door is misaligned a bit.

Thanks Steve!

Definitely NOT a B767...but it does have a working main cargo door!!!

You are correct...the BCF is a Boeing authorized conversion...in the last couple of years, they opened another conversion site in China...I found that out when I painted the CS DHL B767. The BDSF is a Bedek (Israel) conversion shop.

I doubled checked the two PMDG models...the BDSF has the MCD close to the forward entry door. The BCF model has the MCD further aft. This particular Westjet conversion is somewhere in between the two PMDG models. One of two (or more) things...either PMDG did not model their main cargo door correctly for the BCF or the conversion shop in China is not mounting the door in the Boeing authorized location (very doubtful!).

I'm not going to stress about...pulled out a few more hairs trying to get the banners lined up until I realized the placement issue. It is, what it is...

I received an email last Friday from a friend in Ontario that this aircraft had been delivered...I couldn't resist painting this one.

I'm not sure if I'll publish it just yet with the temp registration. If anyone is interested, I can send the ptp file via a PM with a return email. When I get some additional photos (inside winglets and actual registration), I'll modify this file and publish.

This morning, I picked up on Planespotters that this airframe may have a new Canadian Registration: C-FJWS (formerly assigned to a Westjet 737-700 that has since been scrapped).

I was wondering if there is anyone here in the forum that is close to YYC airport that could confirm?

Also wondering if anyone could provide (inside) winglet photos of the actual aircraft? Also curious is Westjet will be retaining the underwing registration number (it's visible for the temp reg but not typical for Canadian registered commercial aircraft)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi: Glad you are persisting in creating the -800BCF...yes, this conversion all so new and recent.... China STAECO's facility is going to deliver more units to operators this year 1st quarter, looks like....

Regarding the WestJet (C-FJWS), the inside winglet photos are hard to come by......but, here's a site, I found, that shows some detailed pictures.... (unless you've seen them already)...

Search for "Boeing 737-800BCF WestJet Cargo 1.0.0 - Threshold Forum", and you'll find a series of pictures there...e.g., the very first two shots show the inside of the winglets.... essentially, there is the lettering "westjet.com" (all lowercase), placed vertically and then there are those light-blue and dark-blue strips...tapering upward...

Good luck...!!

[BTW, I just now looked above at your (inside) winglets (rendition) a bit more carefully, e.g., the first of the first set and the first of the 2nd set...you're pretty close...my eyes could be playing tricks on me....but it looks like, in the actual a/c livery, the (tapering) dual-blue strip seems to end "before" the top edge of the winglets...please check the images on the site I mentioned above...]

Thanks for the feedback...and research!!!

I really want to try to get this right...I did see the photos for the X-Plane repaint that you referenced. I'll likely publish this one for P3D/PMDG in the next day or two...if I need to make revisions later, I'll just do so.

I'm trying to reach out through the Virtual Westjet Group to see if anyone works at YYC can get some info on the real aircraft.

The livery is based on the Westjet 737 Max...but there are some subtle differences around the tail logo and the lower scimitar winglets between the actual Max and what can be seen on the 4 available photos of this new Freighter.

I do have an excellent photo of the Max (upper) winglet inside:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Interior_of_westjet_winglet.jpg

Just don't know if this represents what was painted on the freighter...particularly since I believe there is a westjetcargo.com domain.

The Max does have the registration number under the port wing...I'll probably go ahead and add that already. I've tweaked the "Westjet Cargo" banner on each side again to better reflect the available photos...also offset the port side banner to "line up" with the main cargo door...heck, for all I know it may be offset relative to the starboard side on the real aircraft. Also added the "860" tail number to the wheel well doors on the repaint fully expecting the freighter to have this added.

Really wish there were more photos available of this one...regarding this repaint I can't help but remind myself of Churchill..."Perfection is the enemy of Progress"...

🙂

Thanks again for your help!
