Jet Truck Crash...

Featured Replies

These sort of things always make me a bit pensive, as I think about the cost of an adrenaline rush, and the need for ever more striking spectacles to hold the attention of advertisers and paying audiences...

Beyond that, I'm curious why everyone seems to be treating this as an aviation related incident, as the two airplanes racing the truck don't seem to to have been involved in any way, and seem to have incurred no damage.

So.... Why is the FAA getting involved?

It happened at an airshow at the airport.  FAA needs to investigate!

My bad.

I just automatically assumed when I heard about a 300mph truck that it was on a dry lake bed, or something.

I figured you probably watched the video that you posted, no? The first thing he says is that it occurred at an airshow.

The only airshows I've ever seen in my life were at Pratt and Whitney, which was in actuality a  rather huge factory, with an attached airstrip on a side piece of land. (I believe that has now been converted to a stadium and shopping center, though the landing strip may still be wedged somewhere in there)

In fact, in the instances where I did see "airshows" there, the planes were actually displayed in what was/is normally an employee parking lot.

In all the years I lived just down the street from the place, I never once saw a plane take off or land there except for the show, so again, I don't automatically associate "airshow" and full blown airport, and especially, I have never associated airports and 300mph jet-powered monster trucks....

@HiFlyer Understand what you’re saying. I was just confused that you heard or read about the incident and posted a video about it but didn’t know that it was an airshow. I figured you must have watched the video prior to posting and missed the part where they said it occurred at an airshow. No big deal though.

True, it happened at an airport, but it was not an aviation incident. Accidents happen at airports all the time, people get hurt and even killed at airports all the time. It happens. But the FAA doesn't get involved unless it is aviation related. Really, the only thing that the FAA has a say in here is were the aircraft operated safely ( it appears they were) and was the activity on the airport property a properly sanctioned event (It appears it was). Once it is established that the AIRCRAFT involved violated no FAR's, then at that point I agree, that there is not much here that the FAA has jurisdiction over. Really, this should be treated exactly as if a drag racing car (which this effectively was) has a fatal accident. Sure, investigate, but not by the FAA.

I'm sure the condition of the runway and the parachute deceleration device will be a large part of that investigation

It really annoys me that they cover up the truck's accident with their stupid cryon.. 🙄
