July 9, 20223 yr I am wondering if there is anybody using the XBOX version of MS FS 2020? I assume it requires the XBOX X series game unit. Pros and Cons? What are your overall thoughts? Does it support any of the USB yokes, pedals etc? Instead of laying out big $ for a new gaming system, would this be an alternative? I wonder if this version is optimized for the XBOX hardware… Or do you have to use the XBOX controller?? Moderator: I hope this is the correct forum. Thanks!

Have it on the Series X and PC (RTX3090 Video Card). Low entry cost (If you can find a Series X) I wouldn't bother with the S console IMO. Runs in 4K on a large screen Great for sitting on the couch and flying around HOTAS and Yokes are available (Turtle Beach Yoke). I just use the controller. Takes some getting used to but doable. No graphic settings to adjust , is what it is. I've compared both and they look very similar in 4K and the PC version maxed settings. 3rd party add-ons purchased on MS site will be available to both systems. I mainly use the PC but for casual flying the Xbox is fun also. Guess it depends how serious you want to be with it. Edited July 10, 20223 yr by joec63 Semper Fi

July 10, 20223 yr GA is pretty good on it but if ya wanna use more detailed stuff stick to a PC. I use my Xbox X to play games whilst I'm in cruise. Running i5-9600K @ 4.8ghz - 32GB DDR4 3200mhz - GTX 3070.
July 10, 20223 yr For years I've used the XBox controller for my flight simming, first on P3D and then on MSFS. I don't have the XBox version of MSFS, but I still use the XBox controller on my PC version, attached by a standard USB cable. Wireless adapters are readily available. I actually prefer the XBox controller over any other input devices I've tried for flight simulation. July 10, 20223 yr I think it depends on how far you want to go with it. VFR, short hops, a bit of sight seeing? I think the X-Box is good for this. I have it on both PC and the series X but to be honest, I'm probably flying 80 percent of the time on PC. Why? There is a some type of memory leak that produces stutters over extended periods of time in flight on XBox. Also, at random times, the screens go black on quite a few aircraft. Asobo was running a test on the series X and hopefully by the time SU10 comes about, there will be a fix. Until then everything vanilla with very few add ons will get you by. The more add ons (particularly scenery) you have, the bigger issues there seem to be on Xbox. Also, the only addons you will have access to is in the market place. Not a great thing considering the update cadence on certain items. Overall, it's acceptable if you can deal with occasional CTD's and stuttering. However, stay away from long hauls and airliners until they get things sorted, hopefully SU10. Edited July 10, 20223 yr by Monarch41
July 10, 20223 yr My PC died after moving house and PC pricing was through the roof so I didn't build a new one and now we are too close to new CPU/GPU that I won't build until probably early next year. So currently I'm getting my msfs fix via xbox, visually it's pretty decent in 4K, fps can get a bit choppy at times in dense areas with glass cockpits but overall I'm blown away it works on the xbox at all. I started with the controller but quickly picked up Thrustmaster T flight hotas for $159 AUD which is ok, it's no warthog but it's still better than the controller imo, you can also use keyboard and mouse on the series x which I use for menus and you that way have lets of keyboard binds. If you enjoy flying GA and just want to take in the scenery there is fun to be had here, but it won't be as good as the PC experience, I like airliners, use things like simbrief, have a ton of addons on PC both free and payware but I don't normally use marketplace so all that's missing as is my whole orbx library. Not everything on marketplace is avaiable on xbox either, lots of addons on marketplace as I learned since are still only on PC, the marketplace on xbox is extremely limited in its offerings. If you have an xbox I would assume you have gamepass in which case you have msfs anyway so give it a try. Would I 'buy' it on xbox, probably not unless the xbox version also means you have access on pc, not sure. Bottom line the xbox scratches my flightsim itch until I build a new PC but I would not ever consider xbox a permanent solution for a flight sim enthusiast, it offers most of what makes msfs good but it doesn't offer what makes msfs great, that's still reserved for the PC.
July 10, 20223 yr My grandson has it on his XBOX 1 through game pass not 4K, but most PC users don`t use 4K by the forum feedback, but for XBOX MS probably would not have brought it back, game pass gave them funds to invest in old titles MS Train simulator is another example. Raymond Fry.

I looked at the specs for the XBOX X and I didn’t see USB ports. I currently use a USB Hub to connect my devices… I don’t know what OS XBOX X uses, and if it supports Windows 10 usb drivers. Or does it support CH Yoke,Pedals, and Throttle drivers?? I really want to keep FSX-SE on my PC as I have invested $$$$ on third party add-ons.. Then use the XBOX X for MSFS 2020. Thanks! I think the other ATC networks like IVAO and Poscon also don't work for X-Box. I believe AIG doesn't work on X-Box either. And all the add-ons at flightsim.to, they don't work with X-Box either. And then there are paid add-ons like the Fenix A320 that will probably never be released for X-Box. If you just want to fly around casually but you don't care about add-ons, VATSIM/IVAO/Poscon, AIG, Fenix A320, etc, then X-Box is a cheap way to play MSFS but note that the flexibility with MSFS is poor on the X-Box. If you want to get the best out of MSFS though, you probably want a mid-range PC (ie. about $1500 USD desktop PC), and you will get the best experience with MSFS with the most flexibility. I have a MSI MB I5-6800, with 32GB RAM. I have the NVIDIA 1070 8GB video card. I have ran MSFS 2020 on this machine and it worked just OK. That’s why I was hopeful that the XBOX might be a good alternative for the price point. To configure and buy a new system to run MSFS 2020 would be 3-5 times that price. A really good video card can cost 💲 800 - 1000. So you can see why the decision is tough! Thanks!

The price for a 3060 Ti has come down to about $520 USD now, much lower than the peak price. I play in 1920x1080p though, and the 3060 Ti is more than enough for 1920x1080p. I guess if you want to play in 4K with the best FPS, you would need an $800 to $1000 USD graphics card. But for 1920x1080p, you could even get away with a weaker card, like the 3060, which would be even cheaper, and still get very good FPS. But yes, the XBox is way cheaper than a mid-tier PC. Wait until the 4XXX series drop before you buy anything later this year, you may find a really good deal on a 3xxx for real cheap IF X-Box is the only alternative if you want to fly casually or somewhat serious and away from home (lets be honest) but if you want to use advanced ATC programs or online services like Vatsim, IVAO, PE etc and use the aircraft in a sort of realistic way you need to be on a P.C. this is where the X-Box user (not here to degrade) needs to come to grip on reality. Now if you just want to plug in your peripherals in the X-Box and fly I would go to the official MSFS forum and ask that question. Here---> Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums
