I'm guessing you're trying to show a photo of a guardsman outside Buckingham Palace being given a drink by a policeman. If so then no, they have one uniform used in all weather conditions. British soldiers are made of stern stuff! 😁 It's possible their time on duty may have been shortened given the conditions. Many tourists including Americans would expect to see the traditional red tunic and bearskin. Ray (Cheshire, England). July 22, 20223 yr Moderator Three days on from the short but intense heatwave today was refreshingly different. A maximum temperature of 20.1°C and 0.54” of rain. Bliss for the parched lawns! The wettest day in Cheadle Hulme since 20 February. Meanwhile, France and Spain continue to suffer with very high temps. Thank god for the Atlantic and the jet stream. More rain over the weekend. I for one won’t be complaining. http://www.cheadlehulmeweather.co.uk/betel_datasummary.php Ray (Cheshire, England). Im reportedly near one of the wetter parts of the USA though (Mobile Alabama) It’s been a particularly dry year with significant rain in only February and May. All other months have been below normal. If you click on my weather link in my sig and choose NOAA Reports, click 2022 and the Precipitation section shows actuals against average. Wettest year was 2012 with 40”; driest 2018 with just 24.89”. Your rainfall sounds intense for short periods. Ours tends to be light rain spread over longer periods. 5 hours ago, birdguy said: We get up before dawn to water our lawns. Whilst we don’t have a hosepipe ban I’ve refrained from using it except for one evening on my front lawn which was suffering. Despite another 0.21” since midnight it’s taking a time to recover. In 2021 1500 died. So far, for this heat wave we know that 1500 plus have died across Europe due to heat. The figures aren't all in yet for the UK or Europe as far as I know. Nobody said thousands WOULD die, but we know from previous heatwaves it's possible.

The media did say just that, my daughter works in the NHS people are dying of underlying health issues as do old people in winter, but it fit`s the narrative to say heat or cold weather. People with underlying health issues die form catching a cold the cold never killed them pore health did, My sister in law died a week ago we will put that down to global warming if you want (it was cancer), Edited July 23, 20223 yr by G-RFRY Raymond Fry.

The figures are based on excess mortality compared to without a heat wave, seems a reasonable way to do it to me. We won't know those figures yet untill the analysis is done. But of course, you shouldn't really pay to much attention to the media, it's the medical authorities you should listen to. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/phe-heatwave-mortality-monitoring/heatwave-mortality-monitoring-report-2020 Poor health kills yes but poor health is more likely to kill if that person with a compromised system is experiencing 40 degree heat rather than 20 degree heat. Thus, why its vulnerable people that are said to be mostly at risk. Edited July 24, 20223 yr by martin-w

The news has reported 1 heat related death and they clarified the individual had underlying conditions. We are obviously calculating heat related deaths very differently...
