I guess this is better but I do see the lack of resolution on that mesh. it doesn't look anything like that in real life

Well I downloaded and installed the ZL16 just to give you the screenshot!  It looks a lot better to me.  You mention mesh - is this supposed to be downloaded with the Ortho?  Otherwise it is XP default mesh.

I have never used  Ortho4XP so you are correct, it is ZL16.  I wonder if ready made ZL17 are available somewhere?

Ortho4xp is really easy to learn. I was a beginner until yesterday but today I downloaded a ZL18 tile with a small area of ZL19 around the the airport vicinity. I kind of messed up because a single ZL18 tile is 33gb. Took me like 4 hours to download that. So I think I will go with ZL17 with spots of ZL19. A tile of ZL17 is around 7gb I think. That screenshot I posted above is ZL18. As for your question, I don't think ZL17 tiles are readily available to download from anywhere. So you may have to build them yourself. Watch Q8pilot's tutorial on YouTube.

Does it still work ok for XP12?

Definitely works except for some buggy coastlines and water masks. An update is coming for Xp12 though.

Ortho4Xp works , but not at all.

Snow is working on Ortho4XP an looks great.

But 3D-Water is not working, you can see it, but their are not the physics of the waves.

I didn't have much time to try it yet and check the impact it has on my PC but the first flights, around LPPT, were very positive, althoug Alec reported it can become heavy over crowded areas...

Alec gave me an important hint:

XP12.SimHeaven.1) Disable (*) the "detail" and "extra" layers of SimHeaven Europe for XP12 if you notice quite an impact in FPS ( by Alexis)

(*) use "SCENERY_PACK_DISABLED"

Downloaded some tiles with Ortho4xp. Easier to use than I imagined. Downloaded at a base ZL17, with some airfield approaches at ZL19+ZL18.  Detail in the small airport areas is very impressive.

The sun doesn't quite look right for this geolocation though. Usually too little particles in the air to wash it out like that. Sharper edges and a more reddish hue would look better.

My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days

I wanted to try  ortho4xp in XP12 so I put some old XP11 shortcuts in the Custom Scenery folder. It worked fine and the improvement in realism was startling. I hope an upgrade version will be available for XP12 with whatever improvements that have been developed over the last several years. Thanks to the talented people that bring this stuff to us.
