September 18, 20223 yr ...to use for takeoff, before you're selected what gate you will be at? I notice the arrival runway is always accurate, but haven't figured out a way to predict which runway will be for departure. I would like to know so I can choose a gate close to the departure runway. September 18, 20223 yr If you are on the World Map and select and set an airport as departure, it will automatically select he runway for you. Then you can see which one is the active and then afterwards choose a ramp or gate nearby instead. The World Map will also show you the wind direction at the airport and you can derive the active runway based on that. I normally check this in the World Map and then use that info for planning in Little Navmap.

As I say always the arrival airport matches (with what is shown in the World Map) but not so w/ departure, for me, which is why I bring it up. September 18, 20223 yr Thought it seemed too easy 😉 Are you having this issue with the default ATC? I never experienced any mismatches...

September 18, 20223 yr Good idea. I too have this issue when using Simbrief plans. Seems like far too often after I've prepped and request IFR clearance I get to go modify the plan and hopefully don't have to change SIDs such that the entire first few waypoints have to change. Irritating.
September 18, 20223 yr World Map doesn't show correct weather every time, I always press reset after I have choose departure and arrival airports, and 7 times out of 10 I get different runways and the weather picture changes to correct information, it's an irritating bug that has been there from the beginning. So do you believe by hitting reset you get current weather, then their display in the World Map of what runway you will depart on is more consistently matching what ATC says? September 18, 20223 yr I always thought the destination runway is the hardest one and always seems to change during the flight from the one that the World Map showed... September 18, 20223 yr It's likely that, like FSX, certain runways are favored for their precision approaches. I use ForeFlight, but several apps can tell you the preferred runway depending on the wind. Then tune ATIS on the way and be prepared for a change. If it's different you sometimes have to fly a heading off of nav/LNAV and reprogram a new approach. I also use ForeFlight to overlay the approach plate and see visually which fix might be best as an entry point. You can do this with other EFBs or Navigraph map. It's important to remember that runways change all the time, so it's not unrealistic to have to change the approach close to the airport, even though it's a hassle. September 18, 20223 yr In my experience: Departure runway assignment is usually the exact opposite of what I should be using based on winds. If ATC assigns the wrong runway (about 90% of the time), I ignore it and use the proper runway. ATIS is usually wrong, though I do check it for the entertainment value. The destination runway usually matches what I have chosen as part of my plan. On the rare occasion that winds have changed so much in Live Weather that the original approach is inappropriate, I request a different approach. When I do this, ATC accepts the change of approach, then asks that I circle to land on the original (now totally inappropriate) runway. I ignore this, shoot the approach and land, whereupon I am informed that I didn't have permission to land, am surrounded by the constabulary, and arrested, Live Weather has been very accurate lately. The windsocks have been excellent indicators of the actual conditions. Randall Rocke

This morning for my flight KSFO>KPHX when I first input KSFO into the departure airport and KPHX into arrival in the World Map RWY19L was highlighted for departure. So this time I clicked on KSFO again to re-input it into the departure airport field. When I did this I could see Wind was 140 degrees at KSFO and the runway switched to 10L. When I launched my flight sure enough 10L was the runway I was directed to. This is only one test so far but hopeful. So when you "reset" you do this on the Weather page in the WM? I'm going to try this again as the tipoff was that prior to reinputting KSFO the wind was not showing on the selected airport panel that displays runways and wind conditions. Cheers fingers crossed ;o) Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync.
