The only other thing I wasn't crazy about was the default pilot's eye viewpoint which is offset toward the center of the cockpit and too low and far back.

Agreed, I ended up fiddling with mine because it felt like I was always flying slightly sideways with that view.

Be sure to flick the ignition key down on the side of the pedestal, just to the left of the BATT switch.

That did the trick, I forgot to turn the key.  After, I was having issues getting it to start even after the starter was activated, I found timing wise you have to pretty much turn the throttle to idle right after you hit the starter button otherwise you’re too late.

Whats your curves? I think thats what is missing for me, otherwise feels oh so twitchy

I use a TM Hotas with a 12" extension for cyclic and -35 on all 4 axis settings (upper and lower). The extension makes for even greater accuracy for helis, kind of like in a real helicopter.

My VBK anti torques set to -20.

And my home made collective with 10" travel and twist throttle set to -30. Twist throttle does not work yet on CowanSim helis, hopefully soon they will. I have a Virpil collective ordered, long wait, but mine works great in the mean time.

The views in every model I fly are custom set to buttons on my Hotas 4 views so I never use the default views. I fly this model from the right seat as I do most helis, just feels right. My real life lessons were always in the right seat on helis.

This really is the best Heli so far in FS2020.

Great video about the 500E first impressions.

Not my video, just posting from YouTube.

Mine's broken. 😳

Battery on, Rotor brake confirmed off, Fuel cutoff confirmed in, fuel pump on for 5 seconds, Ignition (key) on, ensure throttle closed (beyond Throttle Stop), click Starter ... and 4-or so seconds later the starter just stops. I never manage to get to ignition.

What am I doing wrong?

I think there is some kind of bug! I use CTRL-E and then crank throttle (I have dedicated axis for that) and engine starts

Thanks – what axis (in MSFS) have to mapped to your controller to get throttle (as the usual Throttle axis is of course mapped to Collective).

Strange that it works for some but not others?

I can't check right now, but I think I bind it to "propeller axis"

I had it assigned to propeller axis (pitch), but get absolutely no life on the throttle from that. Tried Helicopter Throttle Axis, which will jump from 0% to 100%, but not follow the axis at all to reduce throttle.

🤷‍♂️

Try pulling the fuel cutoff out and pushing back in  - I've run into the same thing a couple of times and that seems to fix it for me which makes me wonder if something is getting messed up with the status of the system when the helo first loads,

I found I had to twist the throttle to idle immediately after engaging the starter.  If I waited for N1 to increase to the levels indicated in the manual it was too late.

I was able to start it that way but it doesn’t align with the startup procedure in the manual.

I just checked  "helicopter throttle" binding is on "propeller axis"

Tried that too, no luck.

I do that as a matter of course anyway, unfortunately doesn't help.

That's what Joshua Cowan suggested. Doesn't make any difference at all.

Hopefully that’s something he will tweak as even though I finally got it started it was very picky and didn’t seem to match the start up procedures.

In the meantime ctrl-e works, that will only put the throttle into idle though so you will have to put it to full power before trying to lift off.
