October 17, 20223 yr For quite a while I locked my fps to 30 and even set my TV's refresh rate to 30. The sim was really smooth and I found I even had to push the render scale up to ensure I always stayed GPU limited but as others have said panning is just not smooth at 30 fps and is not so good with any type of head tracking. One day I was experimenting and I set a custom refresh rate of 50Hz on my 43 inch TCL 4K TV, this is an entry level TV that has no fancy options other than being 4K. I set VSYNC = On in Nvidia control panel and use Riva Tuner to set a frame rate of 50fps. I mainly run Ultra settings with a couple turned down one notch with a TLOD of 175 & OLOD of 200. This gives me a sim that is as smooth as it is at 60fps but is more manageable in complex aircraft like the PMDG. It made a world of difference and I got the same level of smoothness that you do at 60 fps but giving my hardware some breathing room. The Fenix is harder on my system (as it is for everyone) than the PMDG so I tend to drop the TLOD down. As Noel mentioned earlier I really wish we had an addon that dynamically dropped the TLOD below a certain altitude. For instance I am currently in the Fenix at FL 360 heading to Toronto with a TLOD of 175 and I have a solid 50fps and a perfectly flat frame time of 20ms but once I get to my TOD I know I will need to think about adjusting the TLOD to maintain 50fps as I head into Toronto with FSLTL. If you have the option of setting a custom refresh rate give it a try and then turn Vsync on in NVCP and use Riva to match the refresh rate, I am seeing GPU usage right now of 69% while pulling only 300W with 65 degrees temp, I do have an undervolt in place on my 3090. October 17, 20223 yr As others said - it’s weird that you keep asking this. Different people prefer different things, is all.
October 17, 20223 yr 30Hz is unplayable, gives me a headache when panning the camera. I don't necessarily need 60fps, but definitely more than 30. I bush fly most of the time anyway, so lack of FPS is not of great concern. I'll let the big boys in their flying Titanic's @ busy airports worry about low fps.
October 17, 20223 yr Frame time seems to be the most important for me. Thats not to say FPS isnt important, and aiming for around a 40 average seems to be a happy medium. But if your frame times are slow, it will always appear to be stuttery, just simply not smooth whether you have 30 or 60fps. If I can get frame time in the high teens and consistently, I'm happy. Then turn it off so your not obsessed with it. CYVR LSZH I7-14700k 64gb 6000Mhz DDR5 ASUS z690 ROG STRIX Gaming RTX 4080 Super,
October 17, 20223 yr Speaking of frames And smoothness:- 4090+7950X. Through various configs. Man, it looks super smooth! Low ms times!
October 17, 20223 yr Author what addons are u running ? How r ur traffic settings ? Where about ur flying ? As u know these variables of course can increase frame rates.
