Hey guys,

What some of you use as a replacement of default ATC? want to explore what is out there.. I can't stand VATSIM, is great but just not suitable for me and I am not happy with the default ATC.

Default ATC was already an issue, it's even more so in SU11.  Now default ATC will crash the sim (at least on my end. Not sure if WT G3000 is at play here as well for the CTD issue, still testing).  Can't do a full flight with it.  If default ATC isn't fixed in the SU11 patch for the many issues people are reporting now we'll need an alternative sooner than later. This is based on past experience with broken features in the sim, who knows when Asobo will fix it.😕

I use FSHud and I'm not completely happy with it and I use PRO ATC X and I'm not completely happy with it.

I switch back and forth between. If I get upset with one, I use the other and vice versa 😉

 

FSHud Pros:

good support, under development. Voices are good. simBrief import

Cons:

lacking some features like intersection takeoff. And has bugs of course. 
Biggest con for me: does have its own AI Traffic, so no real live traffic possible.
Maybe with FSLTL ... 

 

PRO ATC Pros:

good voices (in my opinion) however these are partly cluttered, but is not important for me.

Does work with MSFS Traffic, or whatever traffic.

 

Cons:

support is a joke - a bad joke. Developer makes promises never kept and vanishes after a time for years.
Has several bugs which I do not think will get ever fixed. Forum is a mess with little dictator moderators 😉 (currently not working anyway snice some days)

 

With FSHud you can use the Flight1 30 day refund without problems, so maybe you can test it first and see if you are satisfied.
PRO ATC does not have any demo or refund (of course!)

I think the most realistic ATC is from "Pilotedge"

But it's not cheap, about $20/month or $180/year, and only covers western USA. They use current or retired controllers, it's very authentic. They record the audio for all the frequencies every day, so you can have a listen to it, even if not a member, it sounds very professional. 

They have a good series of pilot ratings, so so can start with something simple, and progress from there, but they're optional, you can do your own thing if you prefer.

They start at 8.00AM, but that's 1600 GMT for UK users, quite late, but go on to the small hours.

They do a 5 hours of usage free trial.

ProATC, in my opinion the best of what's available for IFR flights, it includes holding, diverts, ATC by country i.e. changes as you cross borders and live ATC i.e. constant contact with other AI aircraft in your area etc. Trouble is the DEV is really laid back with no sense of urgency, an update with more "randomness" was promised in a month, and it's now getting on for two. I love ProATC, but if something was released with the same content I would buy it in a flash.

ehh I been developing all sort of stuff for MSFS.. I switched to aircraft's.. you didn't hear? :)

External.

It opens, when the sim is the active window, but you can move it where you want.

PRO ATC window is completely independent

Pilot2ATC.

I never need to see its interface during my flight, unless I want to, which is good for immersion.   Beforehand of course yes, I load my flight into it and set it up.  But unless you need to change your STAR or approach, you don't have to re-visit the Pilot2ATC window.   Also, you talk to it -- very nice.

It all works best with IFR flights.  As with all of these ATC add-ons, it is not perfect...I have never found one that was...
