I actually don't allow anything other than Windows to reside on my C drive if it has the option to install elsewhere. Of course all sorts of programs insist on putting something on C regardless, so it's never perfect, but it works well enough for me. As my signature shows, I have dedicated drives for the sim and add-ons. I just find it tidier apart from anything else, but I feel it should just make things run smoother and possibly load faster. If I'm wrong about that, then I'm wrong, but I'm happy enough with things that way.🙂* (* at least until someone can categorically prove I'm entirely mistaken and should change things!😄). Yes, you are wrong : the fastest would be to use only 1 drive and one C partition, please read carefully this page to get your proof. Speed is one thing, but I agree, using other drives/partitions is really a good practice !

Well, if the additional NVMe drives are replacing SSD or HDD drives, then this change will speed up performance. If you’re just adding more drives, then there are things to consider. While your extra M.2 drives are active, they are taking up some of the lanes and the resources attached to those lanes. And : Well, you want the applications that matter the most to run from the primary M.2 slot ------------- This means your second NVme M2 drive IS slower than the 1st one, even if they are identical. Then adding a 3rd one affects resources and slows down everything, and so on with a 4th .... Does Fs 2020 run on your primary master M.2 slot ? If no, try and see a big improvement. I have 2 identical computers except number of NVME drives On my computer using only 1 nvme drive on primary M.2 slot : UEFI boot and W11 boot are faster than on my second computer using 2 M.2 slots FS2020 launch time is faster than on my second computer using 2 M.2 slots Only few seconds, I agree ! Whether you put MSFS on a SSD or a NVME will make no difference if those are already working at capacity. I see that first hand. I moved my sim from a Samsung EVO 840 SSD to a Samsung 980 Pro. The SSD reads data a 537Mb/s the NVME at 7031Mb/s. Difference in loading MSFS? Not more than about 10 seconds. Edited November 27, 20223 yr by Farlis
November 27, 20223 yr I moved my packages folders from 500 gb nvme to a 860 evo ssd because I needed the room and notice no difference in loading time with the sim, takes a few minutes with 41 gb/s if AIG with either one.
November 27, 20223 yr I have 2 2tb NVMe m.2 drives and ended up taking one out it was massive overkill. I always keep OS and all else on one drive as able there is no compelling reason to split them up, partition them, etc. After MSFS with addons, GR Wildlands, The Hunter COTW I still have 1.23Tb free. I also have PERFECT smoothness so there is NO BENEFIT to putting sim and OS on different drives, not anymore though at one point there was a theoretical argument to split them. I back up the entire drive which makes back ups as simple as it gets. Nowadays follow the KISS method.
