What else besides B78X HD?

Featured Replies

It's been a nice plane to use and I have a lot of flights in it but it's gone downhill recently apparently.   Do we have any other options now or in the pipeline?  I know PMDG 777 is way out there but anything else?  I use A Pilot's Life and have one heavy, the PMDG 738 and AS CRJ700 but recently the B78X has become more trouble than it's worth.

Cheers

Noel

Have you flown the FBW a320?  Extreme payware quality with a fantastic price.

it won’t disappoint.

Check out the Headwind A339X, uses stable version of FBW systems.

I've never flown Airbus but something tells me I'm going to have to!   Estimates on the learning curve coming from Boeing?  Also was proficient with Majestic Q400 FWIW.

Flying with a yoke is doable I guess?

Airbusses do the flying on their own. You're the supervisor. You can learn that in a couple of hours 😲

Yoke is okay?

If you use a yoke, probably better to fly the new A310 included in the sim, that also flies itself a little less than the usual bus 😛

What happens when using a yoke with something like the bigger Airbusses?

I have flown it many times with a Yoke, when I'm too lazy to plug in my joystick, and before I got the airbus joystick, the Yoke was all I had.

Although different, the B777 and B787 are both Fly by wire and use Yokes.

I find it less immersive, but I imagine that's simply a matter of preference. I'm sure you'll be fine.

I transitioned not long ago after years and years flying the Boeing.

Learning curve is not a steep as you think it maybe.

The hardest part for me to get used to is the MCDU, i find Boeing's FMC so much easier and more user friendly but mind you i have used it for years so.........

Anyway give it a go Noel, you never know you might enjoy it !

I'm sure you're right as it applies to me.  I have flown a lot of other planes w/ FMC's over the decades but it's been a while and I'm having so much fun already I don't know if I can stand any more 🤩

They are Fly By Wire, but it means something different when flying Boeing. With Boeing, the controls operate as they would if the plane was a C172. Pitch up to climb and hold it...then trim out the back pressure. It's supposed to give the feeling of normal, cable actuated flight controls.

With Airbus, it's a bit different, which is why using a yoke can be troublesome. Fly By Wire in this sense is much more hands off. You put in some stick (left, right, up, down) and go back to neutral. The plane will maintain what you were doing previously. With a yoke, you sorta hold it where you want it, especially in a bank. If you do that with an Airbus, you'll just keep rolling until you go back to neutral. Having a Joystick for the Airbus will give you a much more intuitive sense of control.

Noel a yoke is all I fly with and the FBW works just fine with it. The other good news is there is a plethora of training videos for the Airbus. FSLabs for one and a host of others. You’ll pick it up just fine.

If you are using a yoke try the A310 and call it a day. Using a yoke with an Airbus other than that (A310) don't make much sense.
