Adding additional stock voices to Pilot2ATC Windows 11

Featured Replies

All,

Has anyone had success adding additional voices to Pilot2AC within the Windows 11 operating system?  I have seen how some have accomplished this in Windows 10, but does not appear the same in Windows 11.

Thanks

I was able to add two British from the 'speech' tab in control panel . Looking for more.

Watch this step-by-step video.  I did it and added 25 additional voices.

This video may also be useful to you for "normalizing" the voices or making them sound more "radio" realistic.

Hello All,

This is a post for everyone struggling to get a good P2A in 2024 for no additional money.

I have found a new way to add 20+ high quality voices, quickly and for free. These are the steps to reproduce what I have done (Win 11):

  1. Open "Settings", then go to "Accessibility" > "Narrator".
  2. Under the "Narrator's voice" group, click "Add" next to "Add natural voices", and install all the voices you desire.

Note: by default, the usage of these "natural" labeled voices is restricted, so they can only be used by the Win narrator. We need a program that makes them available (you can read more in the git repo linked below).

To make the voices usable:

  1. Download the ".zip file" under "Assets" from the github release.
  2. Extract the zip, and place it where you would like to keep it.
  3. Open the "Installer" executable file inside.
  4. Tick the two available checkboxes (i suggest to choose only the "Current display language & English (US)" under the MS Edge option)
  5. Install Both 64 and 32 bit adapters by clicking on the "Install" buttons next to them. Once installed correctly, the "Uninstall" button will be enabled (no longer "grayed out").
  6. Launch (or reboot P2A), and you should see the newly installed voces.

IMHO these voices are miles better than the default ones.

I really hope this post has managed to help you.

Be sure to download and install all the voices you want before you try running the NaturalVoiceSAPIAdapter program from GitHub.

Downloading just the 7 English voices, after running the Adapter program, 49 new voices appeared, including 42 "online" voices.  Some have the same name as non-online voices, but sound different.  The variety and quality of most of them are amazing.

I just tried this and this is amazing....what a whole new world. I had already unlocked some of the other voices available after downloading them and making changes tom the registry but this really takes things to a whole new level. Thanks for posting this. I am a long time use of Pilot2ATC and it already is an amazing program and this just puts some nice sweet glaze on it.

However, here's a link that might work with Win 10, assuming you have the latest version:

Windows 10 22H2 - works too ! Way better than default MS voices !

  • for P2A, "64-bit" was sufficient -> "Installed (v0.1.0.0)"
  • ticked only "Include Narrator natural voices" (as I don't know what "Include Microsoft Edge online" does
  • after downloading "Microsoft Aria (Natural") from Dave's link above (link list leads to Microsoft Appstore)
I tested it by the zip file delivered TtsApplication.exe in ...\NaturalVoiceSAPIAdapter_x86_x64\x64
  • being surprised by the Cereproc-comparable quality of "Microsoft Aria (Natural", I downloaded the other english natural voices and added them to my P2A random voice list.

It's not only free, but really good ! Thanks !

Hello and thank you for outlining this procedure.

I've just installed Pilot2ATC v3 and am trying to get it set up.  I've followed the steps above (and per the info on the main website, V3 Downloads).  But I'm not getting the newly added natural voices showing up in the P2A interface.

I'm running Windows 11 Pro with the latest updates (v25H2 for x64).  Under Accessibility, Narrator I see 7 voices with (Natural) as part of their name.  Then 19 voices with a mix of languages (eg Microsoft Richard - English (Canada)), then 5 with Desktop appended to the name, and finally about 20 ending with Online.

Per the guidance, I've deleted all the Online voices from within the P2A Settings.  I've used the Natural Voice SAPI Adapter utility (as included with P2A v3, not the GitHub download) to install the 32-bit and 64 versions.  I've set the 'Included languages' there to en-US.  I've restarted P2A after each change and also rebooted the PC for good measure.

Despite this I only see 3 voices in the dropdowns within the Voices tab of Settings.  They are all prefixed with SAPI: and only include the voices ending with Desktop in the Narrator settings.  If I click 'Use Non-English Voices' and Reload, then I see the 5 voices mentioned above.

Any guidance for getting the Natural voices working would be much appreciated.  Many thanks.

I've just released a new version of P2A that includes the correct version of the Natural Voice installer.

After doing the update, open the Natural Voices installer and, assuming it detects installed Natural Voices, it should show "Uninstall" as an option.

Select that option, wait for it to complete.  Then press the Install link for the 64 bit voices.  No need to install the 32 bit ones.

You can also get more local voices by pressing the "Install MS SAPI voices" button on the Voices tab of P2A Settings.  This will open a window where you should be able to install quite a few local SAPI voices.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thank you for the input.  However, even with v0.2.5m I can't get the Natural Voices to show up within P2ATC.

It's tricky to know how to proceed because the steps in the comments above differ from those in the Natural Voice Installer popup and also from those in the P2Av3 Quick Start Settings video.  For instance the popup shows 'Include Microsoft Edge online voices' but the comments above suggest that Online voices need to be deleted (while the Quick Start Settings video shows them as still installed within P2ATC).

I've used the Natural Voices Installer that came with v0.2.5m to uninstall both 32- and 64-bit 'versions'.  I then selected 64-bit only and installed that.  Back in P2ATC I did a reload - no change.  I also tried restating P2ATC - same.

I also tried the instructions here (Narrator natural voice download links · gexgd0419/NaturalVoiceSAPIAdapter Wiki · GitHub) to download the msix files; I extracted them as per the instructions and pointed the Natural Voices Installer to the folder holding the extracted folders.  Re-installed the 64-bit version, Reload within P2ATC - no change.

Meanwhile I did add a couple of MS SAPI voices - there aren't many to choose from on my system.  They do however show up in the list of available voices.

Looking at other settings, I do the language packs installed for English (UK, US, Australia, India and Canada).  My 'Speech language' is set to English (United States) with 'Recognise non-native accents for this language' ticked.

If you have other things I might check/install, details will be much appreciated.  Thank you.

On the Natural VoicesSAPIAdapter Installer, you should

  • check both the Include Narrator natural voices and Include Microsoft Edge online voices
  • Uncheck the All supported language.
  • Check Current display language & English
  • Now press the Uninstall Buttons at the top.
  • Then finally press the Install button for the 64-bit voices.  Pressing the 32-bit Install button is optional.

That should definitely get you about 20 online voices that actually work.

The most recent tool available at the site you linked to installs voices that don't work.  P2A includes the version of this Install that does work.
