January 14, 20233 yr Hi all, I'm looking for some help from anyone that uses a 4090 with frame generation in MSFS. I recently got a new build and i am struggling to work out the best settings for the best experience with this new card. I have a 4k 60hz samsung monitor and if i simply jump into the sim i have what looks like screen tearing with frame generation and vsync on. I was baffled as i thought vsync would stop this tearing. This strange tearing type issue goes away if i turn frame generation off. I then turned vsync off in the sim, and enabled vync ON in the nvidia control panel, This left the sim smooth as butter but i then have some lag when panning with my mouse etc.. Is there anything i am missing here or is there a compromise needed for this new tech? The best performance for me so far has been by enabling vsync in nvidia control panel, It would be perfect if i did not have that lag. I would be very grateful if anybody could share their own experience of ideas. I won't be looking to upgrade my monitor at the moment though. Have a great day, and thank you in advance.
January 14, 20233 yr Yes I've had similar issues to you which has led me to believe it's broken. Prior to the latest beta (AAU 1) you could use FG and force vsync on in the nvidia control panel. This was super smooth as you were doubling your frame rate but still having vsync. The in game setting for vsync seems to be ignored once FG is switched on which is why you needed the CP to overrule. However the latest beta version has left that workaround unusable. See here https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/regression-dlss3-frame-generation-with-vsync-broken-in-1-30-9/568809/5 On release FG with vsync was not possible but nvidia changed that with a driver release way back in Nov 2022. Hoping Asobo will allow this. Edited January 14, 20233 yr by boez Clarity
January 14, 20233 yr I've only got a meagre 3060TI but I get the feeling that MSFS is still being optimised by the developers to be able to get the best out of the newer cards. Maybe DX12 is the API for the future but I tried it and got really weird artefacts. I'm Sticking with DX11, TAA and vsync on (1440p) via the in-game options for now. Hope you find a setting that works for you. 9800X3D | 5080 | 32GB | 2TB NVME | Dell Ultrasharp U3415W 34" | 3440 x 1440 60Hz
January 14, 20233 yr I've got a 4080- but I've got a 144hz monitor. Can you go into NCP and set a max fps value? I've had to play around because I get a pulsing from my monitor sometimes with FG enabled. January 14, 20233 yr I read about this a while back, try this :- By enabling the frame cap in the nvidia control panel to 1-2fps under *half* your refresh rate, it will still get doubled by DLSS 3 and the input lag will be comparable to unlocked framerate! You should still use Low latency mode to Ultra and Reflex to "enabled+boost" for best latency. Turn off V-sync in game and in control panel. And don’t use riva tuner to lock, only use nvidia control panel.

I managed to miss this important sentence when I first replied! Yes I found the same lag but was willing to accept it for the smoothness. I also tried loads of settings to alleviate the lag but failed. The rest of my post is relevant though as the current beta version breaks this workaround completely and there's seems no way to get FG with vsync (after a week of trying various setting I've not been able anyway). I'd be happy with the lag back!
January 19, 20233 yr Stupid question: which OSD shows the correct FPS including (!) frame generated FPS? I guess the dev mode OSD still shows the engine based FPS, which are without frame generated FPS, correct? January 19, 20233 yr Yeah you need steam overlay or I use MSI afterburner overlay. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
