Any Maddog pilots?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I've been eyeballing the MD for a while now but the high price tag has kept me away. I loved it back in the FSX days! But I've also noticed I never see anyone online flying it and I haven't seen any topics about it in a while. Is it worth getting? Are there any major issues (other than sounds)? Pretty much just looking for some feedback on it to help make a decision if it's truly worth it or not.

Freight Pilot

At least one of my all time favorites.

Allthough i still prefer the P3D version which in my book still has the best immersion regarding handling (i feel some strange electrical elevator trim latency/delay in MSFS in general), GSX and some other stuff its my february bird to fly.

If you are to Maddog its worth it.

I think some people just insist on flying real world routes with real world equipment.  I'm personally not one of them.  But the fact that hardly anybody flies it anymore probably is the largest reason for the lower numbers.  If you liked flying the maddog in FSX, then you will like it in msfs.  Granted the textures are still not as good as they could be.  But still a fun plane to fly.

It's an amazing aircraft. It's also not flown by many carriers or routes, and most simmers have a thing for realism. Combine that with the P3D ported textures and low sound quality and you'll find it's tucked away in a lot of peoples hangars.

Leonardo could have made it a lot more popular among the "I'll fly anything if it's good" crowd if they hired a painter and sound artist to make their product as immersive as the Fenix A320, but they instead chose to move on with other MD-80 variants. The result is as you see now.

I should hope it's your favorite! You're sitting in one in your profile picture! 😄

Even when I left the maddog I kept the picture from the right seat as my Facebook profile for half a decade. The Leonardo version brings me right back to those hot Vegas summers, just without the inop lav, excessive EGT, and arguments with Crew Services. (Though they were always very polite when they wanted us to extend our flight duty period another 2 hours because the plane broke and MX needs time to fix it. 😄)

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

Except for sound and cockpit textures it's as high fidelity as it gets. Even has CPDLC now. I fly it regularly, also on Vatsim. As for why not many fly it online - it's a high workload as a single pilot, especially on Vatsim. I couldn't do it every day, I need at least a day of Fenix in-between 🙂

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Do you have FSUPIC? With it, it's the only way to overcome that electrical trim delay nonsense introduced by ASOBO.

Greetings, please let me know how you counter this issue or give me your setup with FSUIPC.

Hi Ric,
Absolutely, in FSUPIC7 directory, please open FSUPIC7.CFG and find

[Buttons]
ButtonRepeat=20,10
change to
ButtonRepeat=20,0
changing 10 to 0 will fix that delay.
Oh, that works in any version of the FSUPIC.
Enjoy!

I was wondering if this fix would have any other unintended consequences?  I'd like to try this as well.

Hi there,
I understand your concern, direct to the point. There is a lot of information provided within FSUPIC documentation and what actually this adjustment does without any issues.
Actually fixes another problem that ASOBO doesn't understand as to how this should operate.

My FSUIPC.cfg does not have a buttons entry.Do I manually add it?

Is it a registered version?
