Nvidia Driver Question

Featured Replies

I am currently running 522.25 as my Nviidia driver with a 3080ti.  Is there any benefit to downloading the latest driver or a later one, specifically for MSFS?  Thanks!

I tend to be of the school of, if it ain't broke don't fix it, but sometimes a newer driver can be beneficial.  Sometimes not.

I too have a 3080ti, and, a few months ago had some sporadic CTD's in MSFS using DX12 mode.  I've since installed a newer vid driver and so far, no CTD's in DX12 mode.

Now, I can't definitively say that the driver update solved that problem, but it is interesting.  Sometimes with newly-implemented features, like the aforementioned DX12, there are in fact optimizations done in a newer driver which do not appear in an older driver version.

I have the same GPU and running the 517.48....I used to update drivers immediately but lately haven't even bothered...

I used to always keep my drivers updated. Over a year ago I had months where I had regular CTDs.  I essentially couldn't play the game.  Finally they seemed to go away (likely an MS patch).  Now I have a stable version that (crosses fingers) has given me zero problems in MSFS or in anything else I run.  So basically I'm not updating until there's a very good reason to.

When it does come time to update, I'll write down the exact stable version and make sure I keep the download so I can roll back if needed.

That's the driver I went back to, just today. I think it is a lot better than the one I removed (which was one version before the current new one). Seems I picked up a few frames. I think it was the biggest improvement I've had when changing drivers.

I'm running a 3060 card

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz (8 cores) Hyper on, Evga RTX 3060 12 Gig, 32 GB ram, Windows 11, P3D v6, and MSFS 2020 and a couple of SSD's

Running a 3080 here and I updated mine to the new one released in the last few days.  No difference in performance but it did fix a few graphical glitches I was getting in my photoscenery packages.

As always, if you upgrade and find problems ocurring, you can always roll back to your previous driver.

I don't upgrade every time a new driver comes out but if I haven't for a while, I will (especially if something in the release notes looks useful or interesting in some way.
