Graphical Anomaly

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone else has this graphical anomaly that usually occurs heavily when it's overcast at an airport but isn't exclusive to that situation -

1. When stationary in the cockpit and looking at planes taking off you see a trail that leads off the whole plane, almost like air vortices you would see from wing tips in real life but this time coming off the whole plane but clearly a graphics issue.

2. You also see this anomaly when taxiing - any light poles in the area have the same effect coming from it as you're moving along, perpendicular to the object/pole in view, as if there's graphic particles moving horizontally away from it.

I didn't always see it but I've been playing around with different settings recently to improve performance and now I see it more often. I'm sure it's something I've missed in settings but can't figure out what.

I run a decent system so it's not like I'm overloading the GPU and as I said, it's not something I see all the time but definitely something that appears even when FPS is doing fine.

Happens at all airports but I've seen it mostly at EGLL and KLAX.

Any ideas?

It's a side effect of TAA (temporal anti-aliasing), DLSS or FSR. You can try turning it off and using FXAA or DLAA instead but the image quality is significantly worse IMHO, so it's definitely a tradeoff.

Yes little devil!   I have seen it at various times with different objects, and this trail effect is well known.  Although I have seen it talked about, I am not sure if it reported or listed as an official bug.

It is just something we hope Asobo will get around to cleaning up at some stage, maybe as they develop DX12.  I have not tested to see if it is present in DX12 actually, but definitely in DX11.

This does plague me since day one.

Even over different grafic cards. Ever wonder why nobody else mentions it and I do not see it on others videos.

It is very present here under certain weather conditions, like dusk/dawn and clouds

Tried several settings, but these, which give me good performance will also create this "ghosting"
Could maybe also be sth dependent on the screen type.

Hope it gets fixed magically one day

I've not had it myself, but I did see it on a DC Designs promo video for their F-14.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

Yes, that's a coincidence then.  About the only time I saw it on YouTube was on their Concorde demo video if I recall correctly.

Thanks, guys. Good to hear it's a known issue and not an easy fix. I can live with it given the performance I'm getting, just wanted to see if it was something I had switched on (or off) myself. I'm using a 3060ti with TAA as it gives the best performance for the cockpit screens which look blurry and oversaturated using DLSS.

Yes, not too bad at 4k though with a bit of extra sharpening added, but the DLSS blurriness in the screens is another thing I hope they can fix over time.

To be honest, I don't notice much of an FPS increase using DLSS anyway. If there is a difference it really is negligible from what I can see.TAA defo gives me a sharper overall cockpit experience. I'm usually between 25 and 40 FPS at every airport using FSLTL with planes at almost every gate, and up to 50 FPS in the air, I can live with that.

I've seen reports that nvidia may release an update to DLSS to address these issues.

I hope so.  At one stage Asobo mentioned something about needing to 'mask' the screen areas so it doesn't happen.  But it would be better if Nvidia could fix it globally.
