What's the Caribou like ?

Featured Replies

I'm on the fence about this one; it looks good but I suspect frustration about the systems limitations would put me off using it regularly, like some of the stock ones.  It's an interesting enough plane that I wish they'd done a study-level offering.

I have bought this and now I am looking for advice.
The real world Caribou can taxi in reverse.
It may be that in the absence of a manual, I don't know how to do this.
I am hoping that this is user error and that someone will advise me how to operate the reverse thrust correctly.
Thanks.

Working fine for me. I put the throttle 1/2 decrease on my bravo on the throttle axis  detent buttons. Not checked if the toggle reverse working but should, too.

It has been a long time since I flew the Alphasim C-7A, so take the following with a big pinch of salt…  I would think that you have to set the proper prop (negative) pitch then push the throttle.

A fantastic book if you can get it. I flew with and knew Chris Jaensch, he had a lot of experience on the Caribou and flew the HARS  "Bou"  after leaving the RAAF.

He was a very professional operator and all-round great guy. He was an Avid Sim pilot too when he could find the time.

Sadly, He passed away far too young in November 2021.

I attended his funeral and HARS Flew their Caribou down from Shellharbour (Wollongong) to Victoria for a fly past during his Service, Which was very Fitting.

Thanks, will it reverse from a standing start for you?

Yes

How do you do that please?
When I move the throttle levers back it does not move at all.
Should I be doing something else as well?
Obviously, I have already released the brakes.

Is it just me or are you also experiencing COG problems with the Caribou? No matter how I load her, the indicated CoG is way behind limits.

Have you checked the throttles overhead? do they move back beyond the idle point? And do the prop reverse lights light up above main alt gauge? See screenshot, the right throttle is in reverse and the light for right reverse on.

Yes, yes and yes.
Unfortunately, the engines remain at idle and the aircraft does not move.

Did you move the throttle lock levers, in front of the throttles to the unlock position.

If you can walk away it's a good landing

Thanks, I did all of the right things and it didn't work.
However, for a reason that I cannot explain, I am doing the same right things and it's moving backwards.
Then I restarted MSFS and once again, doing all the right things does not work.
Thanks for all the advice.
