Deleting World Updates

Featured Replies

Silly question but is there any other kind??? If I'm only flying in the continental US, is there any reason I can't delete the WUs for other global regions? I'm not a snob...I could just use the HD space 😆. Thanks!

The only caveat I can think of is that some 3rd party freeware/payware may use assets from a specific world update. For example, a 3rd party airport for somewhere in the USA may use assets from the Canada world update or maybe assets from the Italy world update.

Until my recent upgrade, I spent most of my history with MSFS with only a minority of the WUs installed. I encountered no problems at all.

Processor: Intel i9-13900KF 5.8GHz 24-Core, Graphics Processor: Nvidia RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6, System Memory: 64GB High Performance DDR5 SDRAM 5600MHz, Operating System: Windows 11 Home Edition, Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX, LGA 1700, CPU Cooling: Corsair H100i Elite 240mm Liquid Cooling, RGB and LCD Display, Chassis Fans: Corsair Low Decibel, Addressable RGB Fans, Power Supply: Corsair HX1000i Fully Modular Ultra-Low-Noise Platinum ATX 1000 Watt, Primary Storage: 2TB Samsung Gen 4 NVMe SSD, Secondary Storage: 1TB Samsung Gen 4 NVMe SSD, VR Headset: Meta Quest 2, Primary Display: SONY 4K Bravia 75-inch, 2nd Display: SONY 4K Bravia 43-inch, 3rd Display: Vizio 28-inch, 1920x1080. Controller: Xbox Controller attached to PC via USB.

I actually have on 4 WUs installed and have had no issues at all, with default or third part add ons.

MSFS 2024. Primary Planes: Black Square TBM850, Duke, Baron, Caravan; A2A Comanche; FSReborn Phenom; Fexix A321; PMDG 737-7, 777: Utilities: Active Sky (Passive Mode); BATC, FSLTL.

I bought a 1TB M2 drive for around $95, and moved my MSFS to the new drive. I have all my WUs installed, and still have  more than 2/3s of the drive free. The upside to that is MSFS loads much faster now than it did when it was on the SSD C drive.

No. Just go ahead and do it. No dependencies.

That's not exactly true. Some freeware airports are built on some dependencies with certain WU-related airports. I would recommend to check before deleting or better yet, the purchase of an additional disk to accommodate the required extra data/space (what I did).

Then it is still true. Whether 3rd Party add-on freeware is dependant on a World Update is of no matter to 1st party compatibility.
