April 1, 20233 yr I have just upgraded my intel i7/16gb ram/rtx3060 to an i9/32gb ram/rtx4070. With my current setup on ultra, I struggle to break 25 fps in the PMDG 737 with FSLTL at FSDT KORD. Should I be able to keep the settings at ultra and notice an increase in FPS at a heavy scenery area in the PMDG or alike? Edited April 1, 20233 yr by petersej
April 1, 20233 yr You didn't say what screen resolution, which is a big factor, but if it is 4k then yes anyway. 30fps at least, 45fps with DLSS balanced mode. On your new 4070 with frame generation on, 60 fps, which is the one to go for of course - silky smooth. You should be good to go. Start introducing a lot of AI traffic though and it will drop again on virtually all systems. Ultimate setup would be a top end AMD X3D chip with a 4090 of course, which should hit 60fps in virtually any situation. April 1, 20233 yr Author I am going from a 1080p resolution to 1440p resolution. I am not necessarily hoping to see a massive FPS boost in the new setup, but rather hoping for just an improvement on those heavy loaded scenarios like with the PMDG in an addon airport with AI traffic.

If you have a 4k capable monitor, you should go for 4k. I know it is hard to believe, but that could actually give you better performance. It is hard to explain why in simple terms, but there is a Gamers Nexus video on it. In any case, you will be alright and you will definitely see the improvement. April 1, 20233 yr I run MSFS on my system on a G-Sync 1440P curved screen and with my components, flying the Fenix and the PMDG 737 I average 90ish FPS at the airport and over 100-120 in the sky. At large airports in the Fenix, with FSLTL AI, my system might dip into the 80's. This is achieved with Frametime Generation, TAA and a mix of Ultra and High settings in MSFS. My screen refresh rate is 240 Hz, and limiting my FPS through RTSS to just under 140, at 137, and setting my screen to use 140Hz refresh my performance is very smooth and stutter free using those demanding aircraft. The PMDG 737 performs about 10 FPS faster on my system then the Fenix, but BOTH perform really well. Your system components are not too far behind mine, so if you are using Frametime Generation in MSFS (and DX12, which is required for FG), and you have a G-Sync compatible screen, with a refresh higher then 60hz, then you should definitely be able to expect better performance than you are currently getting. And there is nothing wrong with running at 1440P. I have a variety of screens, including a 4k gaming screen and a 4k TV that I have tested MSFS with my system, and for my experience, a quality 1440p gaming monitor has given me the best performance. There will be varying opinions on that, so be prepared for that. That should help with your FPS. With DLSS 3, some glass panel instruments numbers and fonts may be a little blurry though. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM

Plus the NATIVE textures play a big role in this discussion which is why ground textures in any of the sims aren't going to look any better in 4K than at 1440x, just like this portrait looks every bit as blurry at 4K as at 1080p or below: Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. Aircraft used in MSFS 2024: Fenix A320, Aerosoft CRJ, FBW, WT 787X, I-Fly 737 MAX 8, Citation Longitude.

AI traffic can be a huge hit so maybe check it for comparison and then adjust your AI settings. I have had to reduce the AI on my end due to the performance hit. I am utilizing more of the static aircraft in FSLTL with less IFR traffic trying to find a balance. April 2, 20233 yr Reduce your terrain lod settings to at least 200. This one is still destroying any cpu beyond 200 and frame generation does not help at this situation because of you are cpu limited. So you have to pay attention tlod and ai traffic settings to smooth out things. C. Uygar Aircraft Maint. Engineer. at LTFJ

It was a stutterfest and had FPS between 22-24. Then I reduced TLOD to 180 and it became buttery smooth! This is on my Ryzen 5800X3D. 23 hours ago, petersej said: with FSLTL at FSDT KORD. As for AI traffic, KORD is very busy. I have to limit AI to only 50 aircraft and for them to appear only at KORD (i.e. KMDW traffic excluded when at FAF, using PSX Traffic. FSLTL's traffic controller can do similar AFAIK). The other thing I have done is to reduce FSLTL AI aircraft texture sizes from 4K to 2K. It does help performance without overly impacting the quality of the liveries, YMMV. April 2, 20233 yr My 1070 is waving at you from faaaar behind, however first thing to do is whack on Frame Generation using the 4000 series cards. From all the vids I've seen it kind of works like voodoo magic! Thomas Derbyshire
