My next computer - still prefer Intel

For 30+ years I've had Intel CPUs in all my flight sim computers starting with the 486 SX33 back in the early 90s.

But times change and I'm now seriously considering the Ryzen 7 7800X3D which seems to have performed better than the latest Intel and at much lower temps too.

Here's the probable components for my next PC. It will be built by Chillblast, a UK company with a good reputation. Comments or suggestions welcomed. As the mobo can take two M2 drives I've opted for those with the OS on one and P3D on the other.

  • AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU, 8 Cores / 16 Threads, 4.2 - 5.0GHz with 3D V-Cache
  • Corsair RM1000e 80 PLUS Gold 1000W PSU
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 24GB GDDR6X Graphics Card
  • Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact Lite Case - Black
  • ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F GAMING WIFI Motherboard
  • Montech Metal DT24 Premium ARGB Air CPU Cooler
  • Thermal Grizzly Ultra High Performance Thermal Grease
  • 32GB DDR5 Corsair Vengeance 5600MHz Memory Kit (2 x 16GB Sticks)
  • Case Cooling: Not selected
  • M.2 SSD (Max: 2): 500GB Samsung 980 M.2 PCIe Gen 3 Solid State Drive, 2TB Samsung 980 PRO M.2 PCIe Gen 4 Solid State Drive
  • Hard Drives: Seagate 1TB BarraCuda 7200RPM Hard Disk
  • Operating System: Windows 11 Pro

I don't know much about the latest high end Ryzen CPUs but I have a Ryzen 5800X and for GPU I use an RX 6900 XT and I have 32 GB of 3600 Mhz CL15 RAM and P3D runs beautifully.  I can pretty much max out most of P3D's graphics settings and still get great frame rates.  If my system can make P3D run well than the specs you have there will be more than enough to do the job.  All the parts you listed there look good to me also.  You chose good quality brands there.  When you build that thing, it's going to be a beast 😀

The only thing I have done is upgrade my Samsung SSD`s from 1TB to 2TB in the sales, Samsung is cutting production due a 2.6 billion dollar loss. To stop the price dropping it`s their worst sales since 2009 after the last market crash.

I really want to get a 4TB SDD since I have four flight simulators installed, all with their own add-ons plus I need room for all the games I play that recommend an SDD but the prices are so dang high for a good quality 4TB SDD.

I have three 2TB Samsung M2 drives now on my ASUS APEX MB, a 2TB HHD and a 4TB remote drive for backup storage,

The optimum memories for AM5 are DDR5-6000 CL30. The ones above are 5600MT CL36. Not sure what the difference would be on P3D, but it reaches 30+ fps in some games.

Your new MOBO supports up to 4 M2 drives. I am using 4 of those in my TUF board, imho the sweet spot in the Asus lineup, costing almost 200 Euros less than the ROG models. Any reasons why you are going with an HDD?

The ones I listed are the fastest Chillblast have. I’ll speak to them nearer the time of purchase to check if they have the ones you mention.

I’ve always used one for software such as Active Sky that isn’t in need of speedy drives and downloads of course.

When you get the 7800x3d please share your thoughts on performance. I've got a 7950x3d on order and there's no sign of an arrival date yet. Giving thought to a 7900x3d but now the 7800x3d is out initial reviews are very good......  I'll be using it with the 790xt 20gig video card.

@dbw1, I’m awaiting the release of FSL Concorde for P3D before I place my order. These CPUs are pre-order which means Chillblast don’t have any yet. Might be a couple of months before I have it.

Hi Ray,

1. Ensure your memory states AMD EXPO certified under the specs, this will ensure that the motherboard will load the optimized timings for your RAM automatically.

2. Try and get minimum 6000 Mhz memory for your PC, as this is the sweetspot for the new Ryzens, with CAS latency of 30 or 32. The price difference between the 5600 and 6000 is minimal.

Congratulations on your new machine. The brands you picked are super, and you will have a blast with it.

Regards

Thanks @Vlooi, I’ll use your recommendations when I speak to Chillblast. 👍

There is a memory finder tool for most memory manufacturers.
I was able to find this memory module on the Corsair’s page.

https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Memory/VENGEANCE-RGB-DDR5-—-Optimized-for-AMD/p/CMH32GX5M2B6000Z30K

It is a DDR5 6000 CL30 2x16GB module.

I am also building a new system. I ordered all the parts and I’m waiting for delivery of couple of components to start my build.

It’s pretty similar to yours.

@Samaritano, I would prefer G Skill memory like you. This search reveals multiple choices for DDR5 6000 memory. Which is the fastest?
