Precisely. It seems you don’t use TrackIR, otherwise you would experience this lagginess quite often.

After checking with Chillblast about what X670E mobos they have I’ve now switched to a ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO.

And instead of three SSDs I’m having just the one M.2 NVMe 4Tb connected to the PCIe v5 bus. Apparently a second can only use the v4 bus and will be much slower.

So after years of multiple drives including a mechanical HDD things will be very different with this build.

Can either of those SSDs saturate a PCIe v4 X4 link, never mind a v5? While the bus will be slower, I imagine both are significantly faster than even the newest SSDs.

Don’t know Luke. I’m going by advice given by Rob Ainscough who knows his stuff. This is what he’s recommending. https://www.crucial.com/ssd/t700/CT1000T700SSD5.html

Rob must be advising that for future proofing as Luke is right, none of our SSD's will saturate a PCI Gen5 bus.

Maybe he's thinking in terms of technology like DirectStorage that will be used down the line and let us use all of the Gen5 lanes for burst loads...

You are wise to go with 4TB size.  I know you will have a top-notch home Concorde simulation and this new PC will allow you a whole lot of flexibility towards that goal.

@Mace, sadly the purchaser of my existing kit withdrew his offer at the weekend. I’m going to post details of it to the organiser of our monthly flight sim meetings and hope it will attract interest.

Failing that I’ll advertise it locally as it’s still a fast machine for other games. If that fails I’ll probably move it to become my second machine running supporting software for P3D. The 32Gb of RAM will be great for photo editing.

The existing second machine running W7 will be wiped and offered to a charity.

So everything is on hold at present. I counted up all the data on two SSDs and a HDD and it was around 1.5Tb. So 4Tb will be perfect.

With the release of 64-bit Concorde by FSL and seeing recommended specs I've now started the process of buying a new PC. After much thought over several months and flipping between Intel and AMD I've decided to stick with what I'm familiar with and I'm currently negotiating a deal with Chillblast for the following:-

  • Fractal Design Meshify 2 Compact - Black
  • Intel Core i9 13900K
  • MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 24GB
  • ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero
  • G.Skill RipJaws S5 Series (Intel XMP) 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin SDRAM DDR5 6000 CL30-40-40-96 1.35V
  • Crucial T700 M.2-2280 4TB
  • Corsair RMe Series 1000W
  • ASUS ROG Strix LC II 240 ARGB Black
  • be quiet! Silent Wings 4
  • Windows 11 Pro OEM
  • Thermal Grizzly Thermal Paste

I spent very little during the pandemic. Plus I’m very frugal in other areas. 😉

I recently switched to the other side too, I also went for AMD 7800X3D, I gain 20+ fps compare to my old I9 10900k 👍

That’s in MSFS I guess. I’m a committed P3D user so speed of core 0 is critical. That’s where the Intel beat the 7950X3D.

I recently got a new computer build: 7800x3d cpu, 670 mb, 7900xt video, 32g 6000 ram, m.2 drives.

With all sims, msfs, p3d and xp it works very well. First amd computer in a couple decades plus it was much less pricy than an intel/nvida combination.

After a month with it very pleased with it so far.

For P3D I have little doubt that the 13900K is a better choice. Upgrade to 14900K will also be possible down the road.
