Its definately a good troubleshooting step but the onboard gpu doesnt load up the power supply like a video card does. It could still possibly be a bad rail on the power supply but hopefully the new card fixes the issue.
October 4, 20232 yr Author Moderator I've discovered what is causing so much fan noise when the system is idling. The AIO PUMP fan is set to Full Speed. Is that the best setting? Options are Standard, Silent, Turbo, Full Speed and Manual. All other fans are set to Standard. Ray (Cheshire, England). October 4, 20232 yr If you don't already use it, HWiNFO is a good way to find out what is going on. My CPU cooler is a Corsair iCUE H150i, it has a 360mm radiator, the pump runs at full speed all the time, 2325 rpm, but the three fans are controlled by the motherboard. The coolant temperature at idle is 29c and the CPU, 33c when not doing much.
October 4, 20232 yr Author Moderator @Reader, I’ll probably get that utility but looking at the BIOS I can’t see a need for the AIO PUMP fan to run at full speed when the system is not under stress. You say the pump runs at full speed but do you mean the fan associated with the pump? I can’t see why the fan needs to run flat out when no programs are running. Obviously when I launch P3D that’s a different matter but that won’t happen until Friday. Ray (Cheshire, England). October 4, 20232 yr The pump and the fans are two separate reports. Here is the readout just after switching the PC on: It's not perfect, the RGB pro XT is only 240mm and has only two fans. Edited October 4, 20232 yr by Reader

I have a 4K 30Hz monitor so with VSync enabled fps remained at 30 bar heavy airports where even killing a lot of Ai it still couldn’t achieve that target. The card will probably arrive Thursday but the support pole on Friday so I’ll keep the case on its side on the floor to prevent any stress to the slot until I can attach the pole. Your old system was a robust rig and I bet it ran 1080p or 1440p quite well, but 4K is a pretty big bite even for current systems. The 1080Ti is a legendary video card. A month after buying it I bought the BenQ PD3200U monitor and ran 4K thereafter. The CPU and GPU were a great match but flying at night did tax it quite heavily. But as I preferred daytime flights that was okay for 5 years. That system now replaces a modest 8 year-old home-built i5 GTX780 used for photo editing and P3D moving map software. I hope to get many more years out of it. Ray (Cheshire, England). October 5, 20232 yr Author Moderator The replacement 4090 is now installed. It wasn't easy as there was only 3mm of free space between card length and case depth. Anyway, after much gnashing of teeth it eventually dropped in with a reassuring click. The adjustable support pole arrived today and I had assumed its minimum length would be less than the available space between the bottom of the card and the bottom of the case. Sadly it was too long to fit so that will have to go back. Instead I found a pack of minature playing cards in a plastic case and this fitted perfectly. I had the support technician check temps with P3D running and the GPU was around 47C and the CPU 50C. The system has been stable for over 2 hours so it looks like it was a problem with the other graphics card. The new one is quite a bit heavier and just fits in the case. And at FSDT O'Hare with FSL Concorde I can get 30fps with lots of AIG Ai present. Happy days. Ray (Cheshire, England). I have no need for more than 30 fps. It just hammers the CPU for no reason. The spare capacity can be taken up with AIG Ai aircraft. I did check the AM settings and all 32 logic processors are in use. I’ll take a look at what @SteveW recommends. Ray (Cheshire, England). You can still lock it at 40 or 50 on RTSS and trust me it will make a difference and the CPU will never get close to 40% usage Edited October 5, 20232 yr by ttbq1 Ramon De Valencia AMD 9950X3D / 64GB DDR5 6000MHz / RTX 5090 / 1200 watt PSU MSFS 2020 and 2024

I’ll then position at 09L at UK2000 Heathrow in Concorde and then look at performance. If I can get 30 there with no reduction of AIG Ai aircraft I’ll see how much I can balance fps with more complex settings. I have a native 30Hz monitor capable of 60Hz as well but not sure if intermediate refresh rates are possible. It’s still core0 that is the important one. Ray (Cheshire, England). October 8, 20232 yr Author Moderator I’m slowly installing all the software I’ve bought but I’ve had a problem I couldn’t fathom until this morning. Sometimes the sim would be totally fluid returning 30fps and other times it would still return 30 but with lots of micro-stutters. I tried changing the monitor refresh rate from 30 to 29.975 and that seemed to help. But not for long unfortunately. I found that it was fine in windowed mode but not full-screen. What could be the reason? Finally I discovered what was causing it. Triple Buffering! Turn it off and it’s fluid in both modes. I’ve no idea why, other than assuming the 4090 has so much memory over my 1080Ti it’s just not required and is positively detrimental to performance. Ray (Cheshire, England). To clarify, where did you have Triple Buffering Enabled? In P3D or in the Nvidia drivers? TB can be useful but only if enabled in the drivers... much better than enabling the feature in the sim.
