I already generally get 30-45fps at mid settings on my M1 macbook air,

mac doesnt currently have VR, Apple pulled out of steamVR 5 or so years ago when they decided it would never be a success if bound to 30 year old windows code and they would go it alone.

5000 patents later and they drop this bombshell on everyone who doubted them.

To be sure; you’re using a PlayStation Mk. I VR headset?

PSVR on Linux, AMD5900X, RTX3070 for

you can pick them up for $100 now. not worth spending any more on any of the other near peers like the €2000 valve index, Varjo or substandard devices like $3000 MS hololens.

You are quite the optimist. Review I watched mentioned the weight. Metal and glass. Good luck, wearing that for any length of time. One reason I'm looking forward to quest 3 is the reduced weight. I'm ready to take off my quest 2 after 30 minutes of use. I'd be willing to sacrifice features for a headset I can wear for hours.

its modula, there will surely be a halo strap by the time it launches (and I'll probably just 3D print one anyway)

That thing looks like one of those diving googles they sell at mediterranean beaches for 10 €.

That is one of the reasons why this is going to be a disaster for Apple.

Their first new product in over a decade. If it were similar in size to a pair of glasses and ran off an iPhone they’d have a winner.

As it is, it’s just a clunky piece of Scuba gear for bored, divorced dads.

High level heads will roll at Apple in 2025.

because a bundle of

50inch 4K 3D TV

top of the line laptop with an RTX4090 and 32 core CPU

top of the range 3D camera you cant buy anywhere else

and the best VR headset money can buy

in a package small enough to take in your hand luggage.

is worth what, in your opinion?

Or are you just disgruntled Apple got the patents in first and stopped everyone else from shipping it.

While it hasnt even launched yet, what they just promised can very easily do for mobile computing what the iPhone did for mobile phones, its worth $3500 just as a wireless eGPU for macbooks and iPhones, and it is sooooo much more than that.

There are many reasons $10,000 macs are outselling even cheap windows desktops, I would recommend taking some time to consider what they are

Which one of your alternative realities is this taking place in?

Best demo review I've listen to thus far.

If they can get the price down to 2k and it can sim at 60fps I will bite!

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RTX 4080S, Ram - 32GB, 32" 4K Monitor, WIN 11.

Apple have been the largest retailer of personal computers by volume and revenue since pretty much the launch of the M1.

And rightly so, apple silicon flattened the competition there in the same way this new R1 chip flattens all the other VR headset manufacturers.

There is a lot of unanswered questions still, not least in terms of what a full product line ends up looking like, e.g. the iphone 14 is 20% cheaper than the iphone 14 pro (800 vs $1000), pretty sure the $3500 is for an apple vision pro, so not beyond possible by tweeking some of the specs there is cheaper - and more expensive versions (M3 is coming soon, they already have pro max and ultra versions of M2).

It seems they didnt live demo some of the most exciting promises/plans in the keynote - such as "looking at your mac to bring it into the headset" so I would guess that isnt quite ready yet, wifi VR streaming has been moving along quite nicely for a while, but no one is quite there yet afaict (and needs wifi6).

from a personal perspective, Im more sure than ever that openXR is the key here, if I cant full VR into my linux desktop on it and all the compute locked up in that the value of the headset drops to almost nothing for me, if I can its cheap at twice the price.

Once again, this is a reality that only exists in your own head.

In the real world Lenovo, HP and Dell absolutely dominate the market.

Meanwhile

https://medium.com/macoclock/5-reasons-why-macs-are-breaking-sales-records-6c560f022f65

Apple holding an 18.8% share of the global PC market as of Q1 2022, while second-placed Lenovo holds 17.8% and third-placed HP just 13.4%.

See also, the WWDC keynote the OP is lifted from where they discuss the worlds best selling laptop.

You are probably thinking of the "windows PC" market reporters, who like to ignore the fact that basically no one has been buying windows PCs for a decade and that entire market segment is as good as dead for obvious reasons.

This is from Mac O Clock; “the best stories for Apple owners and enthusiasts”.

Yeah it’s just that; a story. Meanwhile, UK govt. keeps equipping yours truly and all the other branches of it’s empire like our NHS, education services, local government, etc., with Windows laptops and PCs cause they’re cheap.

Simple as that.
