Some Questions For P3Dv6 Users

Recommended Posts

Yes, I know P3Dv6 has only been out for a day or so, but I'm sure there are a number of folks who have been using it for hours already and thus have some knowledge of it.

Some questions:

1. Does TAA anti-aliasing work well?  Better than SGAA?

2. Do you notice the ambient occlusion effects on lighting and shadows?

3. Does the atmosphere look more realistic than EA?

4. Do the volumetric clouds look better than v5, and are there cirrus type clouds as well?

5. Is performance overall better than or the same as v5?

6. Are there rain effects on VC windows?

Thanks for your answers.

Dave

Another question please, will ORBX work in v6 without having to up-date them?

So is the online requirement a continuous requirement? Or is an online connection needed only for startup?

What happens if you disconnect from the internet during a flight?

I would be interested in people's opinions on the quality of the graphics.

From a couple of early v6 YT vids, it looks like the default clouds are very flat-bottomed which are quite noticeable. I don't remember them being that flat in v5. I'm not a user of default clouds anyway but it struck me as noticeable.

Also the anti-aliasing. Did it improve? Again from the a couple of vids I have seen I do not see any dramatic improvement i.e. shimmering of objects for those that have very thin lines such as light poles, fencing etc.As per Dave's question, I wonder if TAA makes a difference?

After using it for many moons now, I feel I can answer these questions faithfully:

1. Does TAA anti-aliasing work well?  Better than SGAA?

YES. Issues from previous versions have been resolved now. Other options such as SSAO will make things look darker where textures havent had the appropriate work done on them, just turn it off in those cases.

2. Do you notice the ambient occlusion effects on lighting and shadows?

SADLY MY CARD DOESNT SUPPORT THIS SO I CAN NOT COMMENT

3. Does the atmosphere look more realistic than EA?

 YES, VAST IMPROVEMENT IN LIGHTING.

4. Do the volumetric clouds look better than v5, and are there cirrus type clouds as well?

YES, CLOUDS ARE MORE LIKE MFS NOW.

5. Is performance overall better than or the same as v5?

THE PERFORMANCE IS THE SAME CONSIDERING THE MORE CONTENT WITHIN

6. Are there rain effects on VC windows?

YES, PLANES THAT ARE FLAGGED WITH PBR WILL HAVE RAIN ON WINDOWS, SNOW/RAIN ON SURFACES DRIPPING OFF.

No it's not. I'm seeing noticeably worse performance.

TAA doesn't look very good, I've seen better implementations. And it screws up HUDs.

Most of the nice graphics options are labeled "experimental" or "beta," and it shows. Typical LM.

Maybe your set up in the menus and the pc isnt right then.

Would say that using TAA doesn't make things look sharper, in fact, noticed when I switched it on, the lettering on the aircraft became less distinct.

Also, the new clouds look just as awful as the previous versions, I've turned them off, but the lighting looks better.

Gents, when discussing performance it would be instructive to know your hardware specs. 👍

And also a fully tweaked and optimized v5 =/= an out of the box v6 with sliders fully maxed out.

Apples to oranges.
