July 11, 20232 yr Still messing around with XP12 as well. In the process now of gettting some ortho stuff in place and still seeing what may or may not port over from XP11 ok. Some random shots from threee "take a break" flights. First, a "proper" (non big nose) 747 out of KLAX. Not sure about the lighting and atmospherics in these, but I will be playing with some LUA scripts later to see if that helps. I'd forgotten about all that stuff but after a prompt on the XP forum I found some stuff on the .org site to play with. Now a few in the Tollis A319 north out of KEWR (DD's airports and NY in use here, along with SImheaven and V_Sims ortho)) And lastly, out of KORD and around Chicago (DD, Simheaven and V_SIms again) Trying out a camera addon Heading south into bad weather The two sims feel very different, but both are equally fun right now Edited July 11, 20232 yr by andy1252 incomplete post Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. I doubt I'll be furiously buying addons for this the way I have been for MSFS, but I will certainly plug away seeing what works from my XP11 setup, while at the same time tidying it all up. I can see this very definitley getting a fair bit of use. Never likely to replace MSFS, but a real joy nonetheless. On 7/11/2023 at 4:21 PM, Alaska738 said: Stunning shots Andy! The last one is gorgeous! 😉 Cheers Will. Seems a lot easier to actually capture the lightning strikes in XP, or it may just be that my PC and GPU are faster now so respond more quickly to the key press. And actually, that's one of the things I like about XP, the native "take a screenshot" function which I can map to a controller button (the "fire weapons" trigger on the stick, in my case). With MSFS I have to f*rt around with the X-Box Game Bar screen capture option and that means pausing the sim because I need both hands to grab the screen. I had thought about checking out P3D v6 as well, but it doesn't sound too impressive for my purposes (visuals) so I'll hold off on that for now. And that reminds me - I haven't had a play in AFS2 for ages, and that's a great looking sim as well. And I never did get to grips with DCS World, although it also looks pretty impressive. So many sims, so little time. How I ever found time to work back in the bad old days is a mystery. On 7/11/2023 at 8:48 PM, Jack_Sawyer said: Nice shots Andy, I especially like the 747. Cheers Jack, and that 747 is one of the reasons I keep using XP. I really don't like the extended versions of any of the big iron, and the 747-800 is a visual abomination to me. I likes 'em stubby! 14 hours ago, filou said: Wonderful shots Andy. I can't wait for 12.06! These lights and shadows... A delight. Cheers Filou. I'm really looking forward to that too. Comparing and checking with the older Forkboy orthos to see how the coverage works. The V_SIms stuff is more comprehensive, but oddly enough misses out Michigan, as far as I can see. Not sure why that is. That's covered by the Forkboy stuff, but I haven't looked in to how easy it would be to pull the appropriate tiles out of the one package in to the other. Can't remember anything much at this point about all the overlay stuff and so on, but I used to make my own ortho so it may all come back to me yet 2 hours ago, Chunk said: Nice shots mate! I need to install some ortho into XP12. The extended versions of all these sort of aircraft just don't work for me aesthetically. The 748 always looks to me like it just wants to tip forward and bury its nose in the ground. I struggle a bit with the -400 as well, although it's not as bad. For me the -100 or -200, or better still the -SP, are the desirable 747s, and it's great to have them in XP. Same sort of thinking for why the A-318 is my favourite Airbus, by a VERY long way. No idea why this is. Maybe I was scared by a Pinocchio cartoon as a small child or something. Forkboy's "Great Lakes" orthos should cover that, plus the Chicago area and East Illinois and Wisconsin. As far as I know though they're only available via torrent.
