Comanche 1.1. : issue with the 530 ?

Featured Replies

Since the update 1.1. I have an issue having the Garmin 530 (in a 530/430 combo) in GPS mode driving the CDI or rather not driving the CDI. No problem with VLOC so far.

To activate the CDI, I have to toggle between VLOC and GPS. No big deal. But the last flight, Bristol EGGD to Land's End EGHC RNAV 25  the deviation bar showed the deviation to the desired track but wouldn't move even when the CDI red flag was off.

Any one of you having seen the same ? Checking before reinstalling 1.1.

I would post this on the A2A forum, if you want a quick answer.

I would check you have latest 530 fix update as well.

I have AAU2 which is, if not mistaken, mandatory anyway. And I don't have any update pending in the Content manager.

I had an answer at A2A which points to a faulty WT 530 and not the Comanche.   No need for a re-install.

Now a question to those who have it,  would the TDS 750 be better ?

Well that’s an apples/oranges type of thing in m POV. That said, the TDS 750 wins hands down for ease of use, functionality and enhanced features.  Just my 2 cents,

Moving to the PMS GTN 750 from a 530 is like moving from a flip phone to a smart phone. There is even an WTT app for the Comanche which give the autopilot more features.

By a factor of about 1000 = yes.

It's not completely clear from the discussion, but there are two different GTN 750 vendors: TDS and PMS. The latter has a free version with fewer features that you can try to check if this style of modern unit is to your liking. If so, you can decide between the TDS and PMS at your convenience.

Good luck.

750 vs 530. My question was badly formulated.

I had the Flight1 750 in the P3D Comanche (and other birds)  so I know how useful that it can be. But everybody raving about the WT stuff I wanted to try something different. Well , it does not work for me. That or I don't how how to make it work 😄

Beside the problem of the GPS/CDI coupling, it doesn't  reflect the flight plan I have drafted. For instance with a 'EGTG to EGHC through DITBO to transition NIDGA to RNAV start HC25' , it  forgot  DITBO and wanted me to fly direct to HC25 (procedure not yet activated).I had yesterday a similar problem form Brest to St Malo.

I want to be sure that the TDS 750 product is mature and will do the RNAV guiding jobs that the default 530 can't do for me.

Bob What is WTT ? I love the STEC 2 as it is.

I am interested by the TDS only considering the pricing strategy of both. I am not interested by a subscription for a addon of this kind.

Fair enough. I have found the freeware version of the PMS to be sufficient for my needs, but it's good to have choices.

PMS50 GTN is not a subscription if you pay for the lifetime version. You just pay once.

WTT is Working Title Technology. It adds visual approaches, holds and some more stuff to the PMS50 GTN because it will use the WT flight planning system instead of Asobo's.

I have in mind that the free version doesn't have the TAWS activated. Flying quite a bit in the boondocks, it  often comes in handy. Also does it cover well outside the US and Europe ?

EDIT well the best is to try 😁. Downloading the free version.

I had the TDS like 750 in P3D from Flight One and I hated it with a passion. Only updates once a year, had to jump through hoops when flying in different countries. PMS 750 works well, and everyone you can fly in MSFS. I got the paid subsription which is well worth it for all the features it add I tried the $30 one year subscription, but I am going to get the lifetime sub when my year is up.

The other feature of the PMS 750, is if you have any issue at all with it, like I did a few days ago, going to their Discord , you post a question or problem, and sometimes in minutes, you will get a response from the developer. He solved my problem in about 5 minutes.
