Carrier Locations in Free Flight

Recommended Posts

Greetings,First off, thanks to the ACES team for Acceleration/SP2. I absolutely love it and feel that there certainly is tremendous value in the package. This topic was briefly touched upon in another thread, but other than loading FSX carrier missions, is there a way to locate a properly rigged and functioning carrier in free flight? After two balked landings on the carrier off the coast of SFO, I finally realized that it wasn

By "properly rigged", do you mean with arrester cables, etc.?Those might be "mission only" features? I am not sure...In old versions of FS, wasn't there a carrier off Jacksonville, Florida?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

>>Those might be "mission only" features?I really wish the "mission only" scenery could be made part of the free flight world. It'd be fun to be flying along and see a carrier or an air race course below you and decide to do a few laps before continuing on to your destination. ...And it would be fun to fly over Area 51 and see all of that scenery too.

Hi Bill,I've been trying to create a bgl for the carriers for some weeks now and still can't figure it out. If you use the high_detail model you always end up with the old version, the one with the FA/18's on the deck. I can't figure it out.You can of course create a plan for an AI boat. I got a feeling it can't be used as a scenery object much as a normal UI aircraft can't.Any ideas ?

Right here in the AvSim download section for FSX "Miscellaneous Files" section there is a very nice BGL file by Lamont Clark that adds carriers all over the world..moving, wih escorts. AND comes with a slick little Google Earth KML file to show you where they are. So...assuming, as I believe you are, that with X-Pack the carriers are now equipped with cats and cables (not just in the missions) you should be able to download that neat little file and find yourself plenty of carriers steaming around ready for acion. And there's tons of 'em.....neat Pensacola, SFO, Seattle I think, certanly one group south of KORS (actually if you depart NAS Whidbey Island (KNUW) and head south-ish then east-ish or west-ish you may find 'em), and Honululu, and even sailing around the perimiter of Diego Garcia.http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...misc&DLID=96551THis is just a BGL scenery file so if you have Accelleration installed, it should use the new carrier that has all the new stuff in it.Was gonna try it but ran out of time, but I think you'll be pleased with it (I've been using this BGL file with the add-on RCBO gauge set that enables some carrier functionality...should work with Acceleration too I'd think).

went to norfolk, virginia and at 12:30pm there are 2 carriers, one in port and another either leaving or putting in. one is a dummy carrier and the other is live! it has the meatball, launch and landing fixtures. also had a different time and the carrier was heading out somewhere. sure the same of frisco and near seattle.

Yup as I said you can create AI plans for the Carrier. BUT, what we really need is a static scenery bgl so this can be used online. You won't be able to use these while online. As Brain said you can set the sim to a certian time and catch the carriers in freeflight mode. Now, what we need is a static scenery for online action, which is what I have been trying to create. Any ideas anyone ?The other suggestion I've been given, from an very nice Aces' chap, was to convert the carrier into a UI model and use this online, so in effect other player can land on your Carrier, but, the arrestor cables worked fine but the cat launch didn't due to the key strokes not been recognised by the player being on the deck. So again we need a static bgl to be shared so we can use it online.
