Slew (Y) is such a problem

It still works the same if you take 5 minutes to set it up.

I have my stick mapped to the translate functions with the twist set to rotate, and buttons for up & down. It works exactly the same for me as it did in both FSX and P3D. There is absolutely no difference.

It doesn’t translate as smoothly and you can’t even move the camera.

I agree, it's exactly the same if one configures it properly.

I use FStarter to set up my airplane to any location with just a mouseclick.

It works beautiful with the XBox Controller, everything is set already with the Controller for use with "Y" and you ready to go..👍

cheers 😉

Actually slewing in MSFS enables much finer and precise control than FSX or PM3D. It's just that by default, MSFS is set up wrong. Set up more sensibly by the player in MSFS Controls window, will end forever any hundreds of meters with each touch. I can move it 3 inches with each touch. Translate up, down, forward, back, translate left and right, yaw left and right, and roll left and right.

It probably took me 10 minutes to set it up. The idea is stop using the keyboard keys for slew movements. Instead map all slew movements to the controllers instead of using keyboard keys. Because keyboard keys are not proportional, but controller axis are proportional.

If I move the stick or yoke wheel very slightly left or right, then the plane will move very slowly a couple inches or so left or right, and if I move the stick further, then the plane will move faster. In proportion to how far the stick has moved.

For yaw movements I use the rudder pedals. A good way to map moving up or down slow or fast proportionally, I imagine would be the toe brakes. I use a rocker switch to move up or down slowly or quickly because I had no toe brakes until a couple weeks ago (VKB pedals don't  have toe brakes).

If you are not in slew mode, then these controllers do not slew the plane. They do the normal stick and rudder functions.

I only recently got toe brakes (VKB pedals have no toe brakes).

Please can you share your slew configuration for yoke and pedals ?

Thanks

Of course you type "slew" in MSFS controls to find axis assignments. I use a combination of buttons and axis. Everybody is going to have different controllers and thus not named the same.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

I used the "flapper" (button 4) on Warthog to change buttons 11 and 13 on  the "castle  hat" from up and down "slow" to up and down "fast".

I always use the flapper switch (4) to change everything on the stick to new assignments. That is to say they are different depending if the flapper is held down simultaneously with my finger or not. Thus up slow becomes up fast, etc.

None of that stuff wastes available hats or axis because none of the above does anything at all in cockpit view or outside view. They only do the above commands when you are in slew mode (F key). In cockpit view the pedals move the rudder instead, and the stick moves the ailerons etc.
