Is Gulfstream letting up?

Featured Replies

Quick question I don’t know if I have asked on here, I have asked on several other forums but to keep from bothering the same forum about it again I figured I would ask here. I have read a varsity of stories that Gulfstream hasn’t allowed any of their aircraft in any at home flight simulators. Does anyone have a source for this information? Because it seems they let up considering there is a number of Gulfstream’s out there, a few of which are even payware and have been up for what I would guess is a couple of years now. I’m just really confused, have they let up? Cause I’m also in a discord server where they are developing one for MSFS, and they said that the company has eased up. Curious to know!

Thanks.

Alexandre Trahan.

Looks like people are working on the G650, which was the launch model on that line of aircraft, and replaced by the G800 now, not sure if that means they are letting up or the trademarks have expired, or some other loophole. That model is also used by the USAF so a public asset too

Honestly, I think this is one of the longest-propagated internet legends in the hobby.

There have been a number of Gulfstream add-ons over the years, both freeware and payware, and still are.

At most, the only legal objection Gulfstream Aerospace could raise regarding the use of one of their models in flight simulation is the use of the trademarked name “Gulfstream”.

The trademarks are alive and well. The USAF (Along with the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and the Coast Guard)  operate a number of Gulfstream models, all the way back from GI (C4 / VC4) and GII (VC11A),(both no longer in service) to GIII (C-20A), GIV (C-20G), GV (C-37A), G550 (C-37B), but not G500, G600, G650, G650ER, G700, or G800. The 700 and 800 are not fully certified yet anyhow, but will be before ya know it. The G800 supplements the G650, not replaces it (yet).

Hello! If you happen to know, (I am guessing by your username you might work for Gulfstream?), does that technically mean that Gulfstream Aircraft that have been made for Flight Simulator's that are free or payware are a patent/trademark/etc., infringement and violation under Gulfstream's policies and are illegal to create and or possess?

Thanks!

My Bombardier Global Express Vistajet looks just like a Gulfstream G Series private plane.  I enjoy flying it; I can't remember where I got it but it was freeware as far as I remember.

I am sorry but I am not affiliated with either the legal department or Media Relations so I am not in as position to comment either way.

Where???😳  I totally missed the payware versions your referencing (FS9/FSX/MSFS).  The freeware options we had over the years were sub par to say the least.

In XPlane...XHangar and AKD both have current payware G-5 add-ons for sale.  There have also been, as you noted, underwhelming attempts at freeware versions, but none that I know of has ever been run out of town by a hypervigilant pack of mythical Savannah trademark lawyers.

Referencing anything XPlane in the MSFS forum is what through me off.  I hope if a developer made a decent attempt in XPlane and got no flack from the manufacture could do the same for MSFS.  Take 'Gulfstream' out the product name as other developers do.  A successful attempt in XP shows what's possible in MSFS as we really need one of those birds on this side.  It would be a huge seller if it's good.🍺
