PMDG DC-6 2.0.50

I can't believe it, first DC6t flight in around a year ( I think). Everything went perfectly including the ILS approach and landing. Now I just have to get used to using the GTN 430 again.

Well that was short lived. Second flight, Gyropilot would no engage the GPS course nopmatter which switch I toggled back and forth. Then I lose control of engine Number 3 throttle which went to idle. Like I said, a piece of junk. Back on blocks permanently..

it's working well on my side, but just the GPS/GNS thing. Sometimes at first the GNS doesn't seem to follow the GPS but for some odd idiosincrasy it keeps following the GPS signal, no problems for the ILS/GS VLOC approach. Yes, it is not perfect but it is different from any other plane: I mean that it is not boring and every flight is unique, it doesn't fly with math logic like the modern jets and turboprop. Also it's very different from the other light airplane like the (stupendous) A2A Comanche, because the DC-6 is heavier and reacts in a very different way to the variable weather condition, and like the in real life, you have to watch your engines all the time long. Hoping that PMDG will make it better and better.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

I did two flights now using the GTN750 as Autopilot and it works absolutly well, GPS, ILS all captured fine but to say did not use yet the Gyropilot so i don`t know if that works.

By the way it seems the flap up/down gauge seems not to work showing the flaps setting at a current state.

If the flaps are set for example to 30 the gauge still stays at top to 0 this happens with all flap settings, does anybody seen the same thing ?

But like to fly this bird now again, before this update the NAV/GPS flight was a zig-zag flight from waypoint to waypoint and the LOC/Glide didn`t capture at all but now some fun is back, at least for me..🤗

cheers 😉

The flaps gauge is working well here, have you tried a reinstall?. I'm using the infamous GNS430, it's more realistic, has its own bezel and it's free.

For almost a year the PMDG guys said that the DC-6 was waving and zigzaging just for few customers...🤬

OK tested again and you right it works !

Seeing this yesterday after i recorded a flight and played this record, there it didn`t work seems it does not save this action..🤪

So all good..

Love the dc6! hopefully it will get the new UFT thing at some point.

Yeah, it's an older plane so using the gyropilot for a bit to get it very close to the line is important. After getting it almost directly on the line I switched back to localizer.

Bob, you said your number 3 engine failed?

I am curious to know how this happened. I have two throttles that control all 4 engines on the bravo.

Maybe what I mentioned above could help

I have one control for all 4 throttles, number three throttle lever reduced by itself.

Just thinking aloud here.... do you have FSUIPC, failures on the dc6?

I have FSUIPC..Don't need to have failures on the DC6, it breaks itself. 😉

Just curious if you have any settings on fsuipc that changes any inputs etc. Just a thought. I have that program for other apps but have never changed any of it's settings.

Try this, that is what i do and it works for me :

Start and climb your plane from Hand and settle her next to your flightpath ( GPS plan ).

Your Gyropilot Knob should stay on Gyropilot.

Put the AP button to on, if you now set your Gyropilot knob to Localiser the AP goes off so don`t do that,

First set the AP Mechanical lever to on ( up ) it`s under the 4 red engine mixture levers and set Alt hold to level to hold ALT.

Then you can set the Gyropilot Knob to Localiser to let the Plane follow your GPS Plan the AP should stay on this way.

Then shut off the ALT hold and climp to your desired Altitude setting the AP climb wheel to match your speed.

Hope this helps, for me i am doeing it this way and all works fine...

Could be sometimes the AP loses the GPS path than just put the AP off and ON again this should normaly gets you back on GPS path.

This happens not often but sometimes, don`t know why..

cheers 😉

I flew this aircraft for months with no problems. All of a sudden, the Gyropilot stopped tracking the course from the GPS, no matter what I turned on and off, toggled, etc..One flight it will work, the very next flight, NG.

Hmmm 🤔,

Do you tried without the community folder for a possible problem with Add ons ?

Don't know what happens here for you, did three flights in a row now, two with the GTN750 and one with the Gyropilot and all of them worked well..

Then I have to pass, unfortunately I'm running out of ideas, sorry ..😔

From the PMDG forum :

Quote

There are two WT GNS 530 units in the marketplace/content manager.

The first should be installed. It has a blank thumbnail. That is the WT avionics that now come "stock" with SU11. The other has a color pic of the 530 in its thumbnail and is not needed for the DC-6, and breaks pretty much every autopilot while it's installed. It is/was used to link addons that had not been updated to call the new WT avionics with the new avionics, but apparently also contains some beta autopilot code.

It's broken the FSW C414, it breaks the BSQ Caravan autopilot (but the Caravan needs it to point to the WT avionics, it sucks), and it probably breaks the DC-6 if it's installed.

You can search 530 in the Content Manager to see which you have installed.

I uninstalled the "other" GNS430/530, restarted the sim and tried to fly the DC-6 again, it was flawless and reliable, ILS/GS included, but I don't know if it was for the deleted supposed intrusive package. The WT guys told me:

Quote

The second package (the one with the thumbnail) contains no code. It is just a "bridge" to point planes to the new stock GNS when the aircraft developer didn't make the switch yet. If the DC-6 already points to the new GNS in its panel.cfg, then adding/removing the package would have no effect.
