Fly through live volcano tomorrow?

Recommended Posts

BIKF Keflavik is the largest airport in Iceland. The nearby tourist town of Grindavik was evacuated tonight! A volcano under the city might erupt!

For years, tourists in expensive Guesthouse hotubs got good views of volcano

Live weather tomorrow could be interesting if it blows! Maybe nothing will happen, who knows?

Mine neither. People are fearing, loosing everything they have. Usually some people loosing even life or happiness in life.

I will not use flights im in Iceland out of my respect to this horrific situation.

Just my way of acting and may differ from others.

This is really scary and hopefully nothing will happen and these people can return to normal life quite soon.

It did finally blow tonight. Reykjavik put on alert just in case.

Is that the "seam" they have been talking about?   I've never seen anything like that, it's like a long fissure rather than a single "hole".

There was never any danger of that happening. Neither are the settlements in the vicinity large enough, nor was it going to be a situation where a pyroclastic erruption happens.

And on top of that the area was evacuated a month ago.

By the way you can see the fissure where the lava is coming from was already there beforehand if you look at the aerials:

Yes, rather than a single volcano or caldera, it is a seam now around 2 miles long (3.5km) and possibly still growing.  Amazing.
I just hope everyone will be alright as I am quite fond of the Icelanders and their culture.  Although I wish they hadn't released Bjork on the world.

Watching the video of it this morning, it reminded me of an old classic sci-fi film I watched recently called "Crack In The World".
Free to watch on YouTube at the moment.  I remember watching it as a kid and it scared the hell out of me!

Call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind, but I prefer Rob.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Quite. Unforgivable that was. However, look at it from their point of view......you would have wanted rid of that absurd noise, wouldn't you?
